Gee, I guess all those stories of soldiers stripping armor off of dead foes are pure fantasy. I'm sure that any life loving, penniless soldier would walk away from a treasure trove of free armor whose previous owners have passed on. All the inventories of captured equipment must be just for show cuz...

Hi Bjorn, You should be able to find plenty of reasons for lamellar for your Danish persona. One could be you served in the Varangian Guard in Byzantine service and picked it up while there. YOu could also have gone on Crusade to the Holy Land and procured it from a dead Saracen. No one is really go...

Too much is definitely better than too little. You could use leather, silk or even wire to lace it all together. I'm assuming you want authentic materials, so Paracord would be right out. You need at least 16 guage steel for the bazus. Check in classifieds, sometimes Willing Pell has some on ebay. B...

Likewise, I never said that SCA was the one true way. For the record, I don't think there is one true way. I think that the fechtbuchs are invaluable sources of knowledge. I think SCA is a quite legitimate martial art/sport/science. SCA and WMA do not cancel each other out, both are quite valid. So ...

I suspect that any decent SCA fighter who practices regularly(sp) could take out a knife wielding mugger (who probably never practices) with very little effort.... Do you mean with a stick or hand to hand combat; I don't see where SCA and grappling meet. Man why do I feel like I am back in middle s...

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for but here goes: I view SCA combat as another martial discipline to master and use to develop my character. I view it as a sport and an opportunity to experience medieval one on one combat. I view it as another avenue towards fitness and I view it as a ...

I'd prefer male or masculine looking angels if that's at all possible (the arms are partly inspired by my knights and my grandknights arms) and the angel on Lyonel's arms is male. I appreciate it. Adam Berry's lamellae are made from 20 guage stainless, so you could get some stainless and make your own. Can anyone create a new avatar for me? Or 'splain me how to do it myself? I emailed Eff but got no response so I don't know if he's doing these anymore. I made a new blazon that I hope will pass more easily than the previous one. I'm willing to pay.

Sounds well thought out and appropriate for your time period. I commend you for giving it thought and doing it right from the beginning.

The pourpoint is a separate garment from the gambeson, usually for holding up your leg harness, while other pieces get pointed to the gambeson.

Duke Logan recommends hockey elbows. I presently use a simple cop attached to a vambrace but I loathe elbow pads and the strap across the elbow. I find them a hindrance to ROM in my arms. Linen cotton blends aren't too bad, but anything with polyester in it won't breath like linen does. Linen is comparable to UnderArmor in that it wicks and helps keep you a bit cooler than cotton or cotton/poly blends.

Where is Sir Vitus' article located and are there others?

Edit: I am in agreement with Sir Vitus. I think most people workout without any understanding of what sort of demands are placed on the body in SCA combat nor any understanding of exercise physiology and how to use it to advantage.
