Perhaps you mean "vale" or "salve"?

...a pretty decent pic of mine. Nice! I wonder if that same blank could be screwed to a plywood ring to extend the circuference 6 inches or so. Might make a very servicable, affordable aspis (Greek round shield) for SCA combat? Cheers, Tim Why not? BdeB has one, as does Mord. Get one give it a try ...

mixed weapon fights

Gofanko's thread made me think and rather than hijack his thread, I came over here. What ocurred to me is to wonder what sort of mixed weapon fights people particularly enjoy and why. Gofanko's great sword/two weapon, sword and sheild/polearm, heck sword and sheild versus anything else, etc, etc. Pl...

My instinct says aggressive point work. I'll give it a try with Lyonel if it ever stops raining. Perhaps lengthen the handle to give a bit more point control and leverage.

But then I always feel like I'm doing better if I'm aggressive. YMMV.

Hmm...it was much cooler in my head than the video made it seem. :?

Thoughts, anyone? I'm especially curious what the chivalry think about it. What are your thoughts? Would you consider this as base as combat archery or do you find it acceptable under certain circumstances?

SCA - Thrust and throw javelins

I've seen passing mention of such things. What are the rules and info on this activity? Anyone here try it? Is it an experiment or is it approved in some places or am I just making this up?

Thanks, Gaston. I appreciate you explaining where you're coming from. If I recollect, when Lyonel was shopping for plastic for his globose, we looked at Kydex while we were at the shop, read the brief and gave it a pass because of the warning. This was about 5 or 6 years ago. Maybe they've changed t...

Gaston, I got it from the Kydex technical brief. Kydex gives off hydrogen chloride when it gets too hot. The brief didn't offer a specific temp range or I would have mentioned it. Maybe the fumes are responsible for your rudeness. No kidding if you can smell it, it's too hot. ABS forms at a lower te...

Avars, Magyars, Carolingians, Lombards, Slavs, Pagan Saxons, Livonians, etc. Knotwolf is the place to go for early period helms. Otto does good work too. There are tons of Dark Age peoples to choose from that get precious little representation in the SCA. Personally when I get my scale shirt I'm goi...

Sheet ABS is cheaper than kydex and comes in black. Kydex also gives off poisonous fumes at certain temps. YOu can also try HDPE as well. All plastic stinks when heated but kydex might kill you. Thank you for covering it. You're welcome. I am trying to use plastic where, in period, no armor would h...

There are depictions of knights at foot combat with a buckler mounted on the quillons of a bastard or long sword in the off hand and a broadsword in the other. It may be late 15th but at least it's in our period and a knightly weapon system as is spear and sword. I believe you're talking about this...

Cut out a piece of heat treatable steel in the basic shape, hammer or file an edge onto it, then heat treat. Making a halberd head is way easier than making a sword. Unless you want to hammer a billet of steel into shape that is.
