Dearest Vitus- I'll be happy to give you my opinion on this subject, but I'll do it in another thread. Don't want audax to have a meltdown over the direction of his thread. Look for it a bit later, I'm currently having a Monday. Gwen I'll only meltdown if someone suggests I wear a coif again.

So - I don't use this one, I teach it, and have been hit by it. Audax hold your sword arm out, palm up, indside of the elbow up. If you're like 90% of the women in the United States there will be a "jog" from your sholder to your elbow, then from your elbow to your wrist. If you throw the standard ...

I bet audax thought this thread was going to be 3 people suggesting he put some trim on his tunic, rubber stamping the Robin Hood hat and that would be the end of it. A word to anyone watching this thread- if you ask me to get involved, I'm going to ask a lot of questions! Gwen LoL, that's pretty m...

Ya, what Oswyn said. To expand upon it, much of the prejudice against going native was from those fresh from Europe. Those who had been "in country" for some time or even born there were less opposed to adopting certain customs of dress and diet to adapt to the climate. I'll look through my books so...

That's what I'd rather do, than wear what looks rather like a diaper on my head. (Sorry coif guys.) That's why I'd like a hood or possibly a turban of some sort. Since my persona hails from the Holy Land it is not unlikely I might have worn a turban or other head wrap, since it is a time honored sol...

An aluminum or wooden waster would work or you could get one of Paul Chen's practical series swords. YOu could even use a piece of rattan. None of these is particularly expensive and will work better than a random piece of steel. Regards, audax wouldn't aluminum be just as inclined to bend... if no...

Depending on force levels of your local kingdom, I find you can have good results with this. Warning, this is wierd. Backfist, Reverse Punch, Ridgehand. What this translates to in SCA terms (and I don't know why) is a flat snap, followed by a sheild hook, and then (get this) an over the top sky hoo...

Aarrgh, no coifs! A hood, a Robin Hood hat, even a turban but no coif! Gwen, I was looking at some Outremer art work and many of the tunics in the region seem shorter than what might have been worn in Europe, at least while doing business or supervising the operations of their estates. I'll try on t...

If I want to give a middle class knightly impression, what are some things to add to the tunic to give that impression? I don't see much trim in period representations but would it have been used by a middle class noble? What about accessories: belt, pouch and dagger or utility knife and what sort o...

Thanks for the ideas.

I pretty much agree with dukelogan. Having a tavern style fight, as PART of an SCA event would be ok: especially if the event had a brigand or outlaw theme to it. Something like that would be fun to be in or even watch if you’re not really into such silliness. But having an entire event based on ...
