I like the leather tube idea suggested by Jehan.

Lyonel uses black electrical tape to wrap his swords, with an under layer of strapping tape. I think they look better than silver duct tape swords and they definitely hit with authority.

Please, BoD, let us make prettier weapons....

Welcome to the Archive. Ok, everyone who knows where Catalonia is, raise your hand... I think that anything appropriate to France would be appropriate to Catalonia in that time. That leaves a lot which is pretty documentable. Great helms are at that point pretty much the rule still, though their ap...

As far as water hardened leather being that much closer to disintegration, many of Dan Houchins pieces are still on the field after several years of hard SCA use. He doesn't use any magic tricks, just water soaking, work hardening and heat treating (now with rabbit hide glue so he can use thinner le...

Except for the part where there were no Iraqis then, because Iraq means "land of the Iranians" in Arabic. The Arab invasion was still a couple hundred years in the future so these lads were probably Indo-Persian culturally.

Greetings Sir Fynn,

The effigies I found were Ritter Philip von Ingelheim, Ritter Ludwig von Hutten and another ritter who's name is now escaping me (I'm at work and forgot the book at home). So anyway, there's a couple of effigies to support wearing a fighting houpeland.

Yeah, what Adam said. Use a c-belt or pourpoint to hold up the legs (which are totally anachronistic for a Welshman from the late 12th cent, unless they're gamboised cuisses). You should be head to toe mail for that era, but that's for another discussion, I suppose. It is possible that the gorget ri...

I think this is a great idea and I know that Lyonel, Sir Corwin, Duke Heogaarden, Sir Gaston and some others here in Bryn Gwlad are very interested in getting some more focused and structured training going on. Talk to them at PIP about your idea sometime. I'm all for it.

Sir Fynn, I know of several effigies that depict knights in houpelands. It seems they were mostly a German fashion but I imagine anyone who felt like it could have worn them.
