To keep you from calling yourself Logan Ebonwoulfe or Jade of Starfall or Henry Plantagenet. If someone wanted to use those names and be called by them whats really to stop them? Outside here and fighitng I would wager many never heard of any of them. Can people only get awards if their names are r...

Well you haven't done anything wrong at all. You've been a lovely lad thus far. You wouldn't have to ask anyone's permission. Do what you like and do it well. Your dad has quite the kit so you have a good role model to work with. And Suzerain, it looked exactly like a lobster tail to me, without the...

if there isnt a way around that any alternative kits you would recommend? i was kind of happy to have a helmet which some people would say is the hardest part, i dont suppose it would fit with another? It's a nice helmet. I say if you want to do Roman you should. SCA is pre 1600 pretty much and no ...

i was afraid of that. i would like to have a roman kit but... theres the 600-1600 AD persona thing correct? any ideas on alternatives that could still fit it? I don't think we're that strict about it anymore. I mean we've got Glaukos the Athenian running around loose somehwere, right? And all those...

Registering names is stupid. LOL thats kind of what I thought. I dont plan on ever getting an AOA or anything so its rather silly for me to even pursue it I guess. Too many damn nobles in the SCA anyway. Hell dont even get me started on crowns/circlets and whatever the hell they are called. In Trim...

even cheaper, go to a thrift store find a 100% wool blanket. Cost of dry cleaning is usually about $2.50 to 5.00 now you can also use it to sleep under... makes your kit a bit lighter. If you can find wool blanket that is what I would start with. And don't dry clean it. Stick it in the washer. Felt...

Gaston de Clermont. He is one of the nicest guys I've ever met, a great friend, generous (he gave me bacon!) and can hit you so hard your brain will come out your nose. He is poetry in motion, especially with a glaive. Lyonel Oliver Grace, for the same reasons but he is a two sword guy. Unfortunatel...

It's a nice kit but when are you trying to be from?
The helm is 12th maybe 13th cent at the latest and the rest of the armour looks to be mid 14th cent. A bascinet or great helm would fit better with the armour.

Re: Stone tools?
Hey, was just curious as I have been knapping some arrowheads and spear points as too whether stone tools and weapons had any place in the medieval ages? I know that in the 1800's stone picks were used in Indian and some countries still use them. Metals being rather expensive and not as easy too co...

Went to Tandy's, the usual bitch wasn't there You have a Tandy's bitch too? Yeah, Tandy's always has at least one bitch. She thinks she knows everything, and lies to you about stuff. Thats why i go to Landwerlins in Indy. they have everything tandy does with better prices (on leather not tools), ex...

There is some amazing stuff in this thread. I LOVE seeing so many people putting such effort into their kits. All I can say is THANK YOU! ...and that, sadly, my summer has been too busy to change anything on my kit, though I have some stuff started....so I am still in this: <img src="http://www.rav...

Re: Putting together my SCA kit.
Hi, putting together some kit for SCA. I want to use an, lets call it an early period kit. I am putting together something that isn't quite historically accurate. Don't hate me. Helmet that I made: http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh17/Captayne/SCA/h10.jpg My body harness. Leather Submarlis with ...

This is armoured combat. A kidney belt is not armour. Sure it is. Minimal sports safety equipment. But what if it is actually documentable. Is it? Seriously, I'd be interested in learning about it, was it worn alone or over mail, etc. I honestly think it's as much armour as a chainmail bikini is ar...

There is a limitation in radiocarbon dating. The thing being measured had to have been alive at one point and it cannot be measured accurately if it is too recent. There is an upper and lower limit, 50-60,000 years being the oldest samples measurable. After about 10 half lives the carbon amount is t...
