I think your dye job is probably going to need repeating if you soak it now.

In future, wet the leather first then dye it. Doesn't need to be soaking wet but the dye will absorb better and more evenly when the leather is cased.

I have a duck cloth gambeson that I let stay wet in storage about week .. Of course mildew set in and it became stinky ... very stinky. I'm not not talking the regular SCA helm funk level. I really need to use it this weekend. I tried tossing it in the wash and dryer. It's now clean but still stink...

May I suggest to not use, the powered steel wire brush on your armour helm. It could mess up the leather and it does not leave a satisfactory finish in my opinion.
