I'm all for realistic looking weapons. I don't think I can post more without being insulting. I'm with you here. You really can't discuss someone who assumes the worst in other people. If I wanted that, I would go to the Political Board. Johno, if you are so certain that by having a shaved rattan s...

I have a cuirass (for sale) made from the pewter Auks. I get lots of compliments on it and most folks can't tell its plastic even up close. There is no grinding noise, it's plastic. Should be no issues wearing a mail shirt underneath. Plastic is an insulator. It does get hot. But not so hot that you...

The husk protects the rattan. I think that if you shave it down to much, you'll have alot of flex and have a harder time getting blows called. It will also reduce the life span of the stick. I do shave mine on the sides a bit to facilitate grip and edge orientation but not the whole haft down to the...

Interesting read Leo. I have found a lot of the german long sword stuff works pretty well in matched weapons as well. Further, a lot of the period pole arm, spear and half swording stuff works as well depending on the weapons paired, and not necessarily with the historical weapon. I really fall bac...

I have seen depiction of knights wearing skirts and sleeves of scale into the mid 15th century. It would not be unreasonable to think that there might be a complete coat of scales under the cuirass and faulds, considering that in Italy it remained in fashion to wear a full coat of mail in similar f...

Beveling does a few things for you: It means leass rubbing on your skin, clothing, etc. It looks clean and complete. Less snagging on armour, clothing, etc. Snags can become a real problem. It makes the edges look thinner, reducing bulky appearance. If you don't care about any of those things, don't...

If you have scale armour why do you need a coat of plates? As to your question, I think that you will find the style of scale armour used by Scyths to be rather different than Italo-Norman armour. Italo-Normans are also not from Northern Europe. They are from Italy. You could concievably have someon...

I don't think the concept of a circus is in any way Medieval, and you should purge the word from your vocabulary of what you are trying to undertake. What you are looking to recreate, is a member of a troupe of joungelours. You should understand, however, that such wandering entertainers were on th...

IN the future: set oven to 180 fahrenhiet, then check the piece every fifteen minutes until it is dry. YOu'll see the moisture escaping on the the flesh side of the leather. To get the tannins/leather to polymerize, the interior temp of the leather needs to reach 167 fahrenheit. It is not enough to...

Just how do you keep your opponent at range in SCA with a longsword? Seems with no grappling or binding there is no disadvantage to close range quickly against it with a sword and shield and render the longsword basically impotent. And, not surprisingly, that is precisely what SCA sword and shield ...

Nice. Definitely put a back spike on it. Hell, I think just a little red tape there should cover it. Put the spike on.
