Look, dude, this place is where serious armourers, historians, archeologists, Classicists and Medievalists hang out. The nature of this beast is to be historically correct or at least seek to know what that is. We're really into this stuff and educating peope is what it is all about. If you don't w...

Ah, I see. In the acquisition comments, it mentioned that the eye holes were decorative and don't line up where they can be seen out of when wearing the helmet. WTF? Did I read that wrong and misunderstand? If not, then I'm missing something. Not impossible. It's kind of like in the SCA. You look a...

If you take a look on the Archive pattern collection, you will find both brigandine and Coat of Plates patterns. Perhaps take a look around there to see how they are made.

As I said, there are only a few extant falchions, of which I posted a few pics. If you look through friossart and other Medieval MS you'll see depictions of curved falchions. The Italians were also fond of curved swords, given how close they were to Moslem terrirories this is probably natural. There...

Seems a little too curved to me to be a falchion. Weren't they generally straight bladed? There a many depictions of falchions with curved blades in art. There are only 2 or 3 extant ones left, the Thorpe having a straight blade with a clip point and the Conyers which looks like a big machete, so i...

Re: WTB- plates for a brig/C.O.P

looking for about 100 18ga. cold rolled steel plates, that measure 2" x 4.5" no need to drill the corners for rivets... I'll do that along with rounding them... Regards another thought.... 18ga is enough for a brig/C.O.P? i plan on covering it with suede and riviting each corner. followin...

That is because that helmet is from Southern Italy, that is Magna Graecia, not from a Greek workshop. It is an imitation of the classic Corinthian made by folks living in Greeces Italian colonies.

Re: A question about 12th century armor

So I have been trying to find info about Poulaines, crusaders born in the holy land circa 1130 or so, and while i can find plenty of details about helms, arm, and leg, and mail, i have two questions. One, would they wear additional body armor besides the chain mail for the chest? Leather chestplate...

Not familiar with the term.
Is that good or bad?

http://www.royalathena.com/pages/GreekC ... HMQ51.html

Bell cuirasses were used during the Archaic period in Greece and by a few other cultures like the Etruscans and I believe Hallstatt period Celts.

Not a bad thing at all.

I have found the spray WD-40 the best all around. I always have it in my equipment supplies. I will have to try some lanolin like Es02 uses. I noticed when I got WD-40 on the leather, it did not seem to hurt it. It just made it darker looking. WD-40 and brown hardware store 3M scrubbers. I have fou...
