The oil is not exotic it is just a random cheap cooking oil, I will oil it again and see if the rusting stops. Don't use cooking oil. Use 3 in 1, WD40, even some Teflon lubricant, something like that. Mild steel never stops rusting. It requires pretty consistent maintenance. The smoother the polish...

Hm, sounding like the added sole for $35 is a fairly good deal, both to prevent wear to the leather, as well as to improve traction on more slick practice surfaces. YOu can also buy some Sole in a Jar, which is barge cement mixed with tire shavings. Very durable and only $30-35 a jar, which will do...

We should be taking Notker with a grain of salt the size of the Rock of Gibraltar. IN other words, this description is not reliable. The best we can say is that Charles wore armour made of iron that was of greater quality and workmanship and technological expertise than anyone else.

The edges aren't clean, so the file work will clean them up. I can see little burrs on the points of the lames that need to be ground or filed off. The edges should actually be kind of rounded over, not just deburred. The best way to get better as an armourer is to educate your eye. Look at lots and...

Ok, my latin is rusty, but that looks like he could be armed from head to foot in mail, as it is decribing the parts of his body being coverd in iron, not listing individual equipment. Have you picked a time frame for this harness?

Bascinet in stainless, padded aventail (no mail)
aluminum BP kit
aluminum cops
aluminum splinted arms and legs

That should come out pretty light and provide a 14th century profile, if that is what you are going for.
