I thought this was pretty intense.

If I had the scratch I'd be picking this one up. m I've always loved saber fighting. Either that one or a U.S. Cavalry Sabre. do we have to pick just one? I'd love to have a basket hilted claymore or something along these lines....

i agree with everything you said except the top and side of the helm thrusts ( armour should count for something ). its the way our sport is described in the handbook (ie killing) and it would be so much better using terminology similar to what you suggest. well done! regards logan Then why should ...

I also have to disagree with Sir Corby's premise. I will admit that for years I felt that right foot forward was foolish and only invited being legged or off-balanced. But lately I have seen that fighting and fighters are fluid and ever-changing. Being dedicated to only one philosophy in an ever-ch...

Is it really that black and white? If it isn't full force, then it is light? I know I can hit and thrust a LOT harder than I do. But I don't, becuase it isn't necessary. And if you don't lock your elbow, you can take a lot off of a thrust on impact. Check with your local fencing community - it's ju...

Why is it necessary to thrust that hard? I mean, sure, hard enough to know the opponent meant it, but does it NEED to be full force? Difference between being able to and having to. . Why is it necessary to swing full force if it was a clean shot? Clean and Light is still good then? Not being able t...

I've got a pair of these leather padded gloves, but mine came from Westland in a group order.
Is this full speed sparring or a little more controlled? If it's not full speed I'd feel comfortable getting my hands hit in these.

Do you have any idea the damage that even a mild puncture can cause to a human face and how god awful painful that wound is? Yes, it takes damn near nothing to end a fight with a direct hit to the face. And it does not even have to be a stab from and edged or thrusting weapon. Take a hit from the w...

Although this wasn't really where I was going with this thread, it is still a good and valuable discussion. On the subject of stout face thrusts. At Midnight at the Oasis in September, I was fighting spear in the melee, minding my own business and happily dismantling the enemy shield wall. All of a...

It's just another tool in the box. Any techniques can be effective, depends on your opponent, the situation, etc. I probably don't use mine enough, one thing I'm working on though, but it's always nice to have the option as it presents another threat to the opponent that they have to watch out for. ...

I've got the scalloped rim one on my spun aluminum domed shield. I had to pound the flanges down just a bit to start the bend but when I riveted them on the boss took whatever shape it needed to to work.

Re: please clarify
Dedication, muscle memory, timing, footwork.....numerous things can be taken from those groups/teachings and be applied to the SCA. Any martial art/sport can help folks in learning any other martial art/sport, by simple application of a training session regularly, focus, and dedication. More of a &...

A whole new level!
This makes me wonder if we could do the same for rattan swords? The metal looks is just "IT".
Combine the look of those axe heads with the shape of the rattan wasters here.

That's what I recalls seeing on the maille and plates as well. I plan on *eventually* getting plates etched to enhance the...

Maille closures!
I've got my fighting gear just about how I want it, with the exception of the maille. I've got a blackened Hauberk, I've split it in the front and want to add buckles or some sort of closure to keep in line with the Maille and Plates style armour. (The plates will have to come a bit later). Simple b...
