That is a pretty good deal.
And a pretty helm.

That would likely ruin the leather strapping.

I had noticed that the leather was easier to cut along one side of the vambraces, but I hadn't really thought that it would make them softer. They've gotten a little stiffer, but I still might pad them or splint them, I guess I'll wear them a few times and see how it goes. They were dyed with Tandy ...

Here goes: The leather first needed to be soaked. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s27/skywlker85/soaking.jpg Then, as one might imagine, it needed to dry a bit. You can see the tools used to edge the leather. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s27/skywlker85/drying.jpg Next came the dye job. Appa...

Alright after a consultation with Jeffrey the Younger the patterns have been re-done and the leather cut. Now i'm up to this: http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s27/skywlker85/allpatterns.jpg The plan is to soak it tomorrow night, take it out around 8 am, go to work on it at around 4 pm in this orde...

Thanks for the tips, I didn't realize that the leather would get so hard that I would need to hinge it. Also the picture really helps with the articulation, now I'm thinking I'll leave the vambrace longer, keep it inside the cop, and use a single central strap to hold it in. Audax, I'm using 13-15 o...

If I stare at it long enough will it turn into armor?-it did
Ok, so I have the leather and the cops, some rudimentary patterns, and an idea of how I want to harden it. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s27/skywlker85/armormess2.jpg So now my questions are about how I've messed up the pattern for the vambrace. The greaves one I'm happy with, but i'm unsure of...

Re-doing kit...leather question
Ok...if I'm going to harden the leather by wetting it, forming it and drying it in the oven, is it necessary to use the armor bend leather, or will 13-15 oz saddle skirting be sufficient?

Is the question you're asking related to where to attach the elbow cops ? Sorry, but I'm just not following.... Pretty much. Sorry about the confusion, but looking at the pic I posted, should the single strap attaching the cop to the vambrace be at the bottom edge of number 1 or the bottom edge of ...

I think it is better to have the opening of the vambraces on the inside of the arm. I'm not sure if this answers your question. As far as attaching them to the cops, one strap down center will be less cumbersome. I think it's hard to do this in words. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the insi...

Re-doing kit--new leather question!
So it looks like I'm going to be putting together a simple set of leather vambraces with fanless cops and probably buying a set of splinted legs and making my own greaves (or getting them made locally). My questions are: On the vambraces, I'm planning to do some wet-forming, hopefully heating it to ...

Getting hit in the shoulders and the hip hurts most for me. Though I guess I'm hit in the head and left leg the most. I think the longest-hurting shot I ever took was to the left leg, through the armor. Today at practice I fought with polearm and then a round shield for fun, and my left hip accumula...

Re: Looking for someone who can answer this physics question
If we consider all other variables to be the same (force of blow, length of blade, movement of target, etc.) how much harder will 1-1/2" ball = 8oz on the tip of a 3' sword hit when compared to a 1" ball = 2.37oz on the tip of a 3' sword? Hmmm....these are what came to mind. Which is most...

Draw knives work wonders, if you can get one. You could probably do it with even just a swiss army knife though. If you have the patience, files work too. At some point I read something on the 'net which recommended sawing down to the depth you want to remove above and below your hand on the grip, t...

I have a barrel top shield sitting in the garage. It was given to me used, as a trainer shield, and at some point in its life it was beaten badly enough that it's no longer the proper shape. I don't know if that was from fighting or being run over though. Keep in mind that I normally use a heater, b...
