Boats
I've been in a few boat battles, and seen more, and being from Atlantia, a sea kingdom, I've thought about how to run them a lot. Here's the thing: Fighters want to fight. They don't want to build stuff. Especially not in armor. Fighting on boats takes place once the boats are next to each other . S...

I occasionally take them, depending on how hard the final impact and where it lands. But for the most part, blocked is blocked. I disagree with this strenuously. If a block is insufficient to stop killing force from reaching a target, it was an insufficient block. Especially nowadays, with the infe...

Ah!
I recall one or two of these used by people locally back in the 1980's.
We called them skateboards.

Ummm, what?
Randy, the offer was to the original poster. Do you plan to buy the mongolian armor?
As the guy above me mentions, I'm rather confused about the cost of disassembly. Especially since it seems very likely that anyone buying the mongol suit would need to disassemble it for their own use.

second hand dibs
So, if you go for the mongolian suit and disassemble it for the plates, I will take the unused excess plates off your hands for a fee in the same range as the % of their cost to you. In other words, I'm willing to buy what you don't need, but note that you are taking the risk buying from overseas. (...

One caveat
It is not unusual to see a speed format used for the early rounds of a tourney, then switched to a standard double elim when the number of fighters has been reduced to a perfect multiple of 8.
Usually 16.
So the format shifts at the round before the quarter finals.

And I have lived in other Kingdoms that had (essentially) a single authorization. I found that I really don't like the 'you're safe so you're OK' auth. Several of the authorizations I witnessed were done by people who were utterly useless on the field unless someone ran onto their weapon. Just beca...

I totally didn't notice Tad wearing sneakers. Hell, he was on our team! A last minute addition. That's probably how he got by inspection--came out late, missed the first round or two. I don't see what you're pointing out in the second pic. Philip is not wearing sneakers, though it might appear so. I...

Fascinating to see it do less well than a normal wood chopping axe. Might have worked better with a tip hit--if they hadn't cut their own feet off by trying to.

Skill level? Travel?
More than pain tolerance (or perhaps equal to it) is the question of your skill level. Are you good at blocking your leg? Do people in your region throw lots of leg shots? Do you anticipate regularly fighting people above your skill level? (I hope so.) Also consider that you may travel outside of th...

Sign of the future?
I'll hazard a guess that this hasn't been snapped up due to Icefalcon's pending offers of titanium mail. This may be a sign that stainless steel mail prices will crash, as many people who can afford a $1000 hauberk can hold out a bit for a $1800 hauberk that weighs less than half as much. I know if ...

Re: Evolution of fighting styles - how do "older"
Do these "older" approaches to SCA fighting still hold up to the newer strategies? I can't speak about anything but Oldcastle and Bellatrix, but I don't feel at all disadvantaged fighting sword hand back. Many people on the east coast still do, though they might be surprised to find thems...

What I have noticed is that the people with a team sports background understand the concept of melee better. They are more likely to stay together as a unit instead of taking off and chasing down that shiny knight. Interesting. In my experience, only melee experience does the job. I mean hell, in f...

Well my friend, no contact sports for me prior to taking up olympic fencing.
Did a little bit of aikido, but wasn't exactly throwing my practice partners around the dojo in high speed rondoris.
Maybe I just learned how to roughhouse at Atlantian melee events?[/i]

If your opponent allows themselves to be out maneuvered so that they are out of position and off balance, that is part of our combat. So long as they are not on the ground they can and should be struck. The only thing you are taking advantage of is the opportunity you created, and the mistake your ...
