I'm pretty dubious that that image actually shows what the original effigy looked like.

There's just no other example I know of that looks anything like that.

Not exactly what the first poster was asking about, but I thought I would mention a strategy of mine. When I am sparring with someone at a much lower skill level than I am, first I talk about what they want from the fight. If they say something like "let's just fight" then I work on the th...

I recall....

the traditional finals format for the Joust was like the traditional format for Atlantian Crown finals:

Best 2 out of 3, lowest precedence picks a form, then the other guy picks, then bring what you like.

That's how they did it at Diamond Joust XII, anyway.

Things unclear from the article, no fault of Alejandro's: None of the pictures show my linen surcoat. All of those are my older, now "informal/practice" surcoats made of polycotton trigger. The trigger does not move as well, nor block print as well, is uncomfortably warmer, but it is appar...

I know Caleb is making/has made several sets of spring stainless finger gauntlets with the intent of having Darkwood Armory sell them at Gulf Wars.

I would not knock an entry because it is made of stainless any more than I would knock a piece of garb because it wasn't woven on a narrow loom by hand. Ok SURE, the section of the head that is beyond the haft flexes better. But the section that is against the haft won't act ANY different. Final word

Hey all, Thought I should (belatedly) relay the final word on this from Society, given to me via Sir Otto, who went to bat for me. NO NO NO NO is pretty much verbatim the answer. No explanation. So I'm going to try some sort of non-glued lamination after I cut the glued section off this stick. Sigh.

Rowan, What you talk about sounds great, but two things about pike walls make me dubious about them working in an SCA context: 1. Part of their real world efficacy comes from the POINTS on the ends of their spears, which snag and catch those trying to get in. Active poking with real pikes was not ne...

sword length

I'll do some analysis of the videos in depth.

But first off, the swords seem long for the size of the fighters, and the distance you guys seem to prefer to fight at is relatively large.

These are probably related issues. Also related: Lord Kettle Hat sure does like backing up!

Cian, that's the second prettiest shield arm strap in Atlantia. Good work. Your top handle is angled wrong for my tastes, but too late now unless that facing is easy to remove. As my 6' tall squire Susanna Grey would say when some thoughtless idiot would refer to a group of fighters as "a bunch of pussies:"

"Pussy is good, right?"

And I think you are unaware of just how much Rosin fights, or how long Mistress Cunian has been at it.
