I found this in another post about skirts over armour... it gave me a warm fuzy feeling deep in my loins.... I've been drooling over that type of shield for quite some time. thinking of base of a couple layers of thick hardened leather for the gutter and birch plywood and leather for the flatter sid...

my understanding of that sort of doublet is that it has a wide the front is an open V shape, and the layer visable on the chest behind it is the undershirt. in the last image there is a long lace going from shoulder to shoulder (really only from one side of the top of the V to the other) to hold it ...

I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for how to finish this horn... the mouhtpiece is carved into the end, and it needs some kind of rim around the other end to prevent it from splitting/chipping if it gets dropped or banged arou...

Um Irish actually Urs Graf was a Swiss Reisläufer. Never the less he did depict Landsknecht in his woodcuts and drawings (often not in the best of light) Then who am I thinking of? Re: Landsknecht Hat - Picture heavy
The interesting thing about the reconstruction of this hat is that it is all squares and rectangles with the exception of the head hole. The brim is a long rectangle with angled ends pleated into the head hole of the top; it is the only way to get that slashed look without 2 pieces which I don't se...

the "make or buy" thread helped me think of this... a lot of people mentioned that they make things rather than buying them if they can not find something they are looking for; which is what I often do, but maybe I haven't been looking hard enough or asking the right people... so I thought this thre...

Durer's Messer Book?
I've read from a few places that Durer wrote (or at least illustrated) a manual for fighting with messers. Does anyone know any thing about this? I got a boat!! its not at all ideal for what I want to do, but at least its wood and open on the top, so it at least works better for this new interest than my sea kayaks would, and slightly more period looking shape than a canoe (reminds me of the one in Durer's "house by a pond"). I hope to start ...

And I have never seen the Katzbalger hung from the side or back, always in the front more like a Sax. thats what I'd always thought too, but it tends to get in the way sometimes. the way their sword belts/sashes seem to fit (too me) makes them easy to shift so the sword hangs at the side, back, or ...

Dante della Luna, the hat was made by me. Its fairly simple to make and based as well as I could on a way I thought some hats I'd seen in woodcuts may have been made.
