Re: Fighters Fighting at an Unofficial Practice (no Marshal)

Since the rapier guy will be, and its an announced official practice. That actually does make sense. Though if they go out of sight and out of the normal practice area, they have some ground for "we left the official and went into the pub-lick" if it comes up. This. If the Rapier marshal shows up a...

Re: Fighters Fighting at an Unofficial Practice (no Marshal)

Cause the way it reads, if a warranted SCA marshal shows up at our paintball-in-armor game, I thought that at first, too, but it is a bit more qualified: - For an activity that includes any combat-related activity, a Marshal warranted for that activity was present and participated in some way, eith...

Re: Fighters Fighting at an Unofficial Practice (no Marshal)

They can't. Every fighter practice I have ever attended has been at a public park. There is nothing stopping a group of SCA fighters from having their own non-SCA combat-related activity in some other part of the park while the SCA practice is going on. It doesn't matter if a King is at the SCA figh...

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?

I think that BoTN will demonstrate that some of the SCA safety concerns are invalid while others are valid. But I think that BoTN is really a totally different animal than SCA combat. In SCA fighting, basically any injury beyond a bruise is considered unacceptable. I like this. In BoTN fighting, act...

Re: Avoiding the 'Diaper' Look

I tried the split-but-butt-covering hose, pointing them at various points around the leg using a sleeveless vest to point them to. It worked, but it ripped out the eyelets on some of the points. It generates very high stresses. Is there any possibility of something like suspenders being worn with ho...

Re: Avoiding the 'Diaper' Look

I do not know if there is evidence to support this, but I also found that with single-point hose it was very effective if the top of the hose had a channel in it and a belt or cord passes through this, similar to braies. The cord enters and exits from a slit at the front of the leg, and ties to the ...

Re: King Rene Tent

The more I use it the more I suspect that hooped tents were the period solution for one primary reason: The walls HAVE to be 7' high to be comfortable walking under the spokes. (maybe 6'6" for shorter people). The human brain isn't comfortable walking under branches repeatedly that are aonly a inch...

I think you may have difficulty finding tent manufacturers who produces a stock pavilion using hoops or spokes. The only one I was aware of was the Past Tents folks: http://www.pasttents.com/tents/medieval/pavilions I had Tentsmiths make mine (It is the one with the shield in front of it here: http:...

I have found the best way to upload pictures these days is to not rely on the BBS you are using for storage. Use Imgur http://www.imgur.com It's free and easy to upload pictures and copy/paste the URL and use it on any BBS. This lets you upload it once and post it in multiple places. It also offload...

Re: The Peel Affinity: Maille aventail liners

There have been discussions for years that speculate that maille in general may have been a lined garment. Thordeman mentions it in his Wisby book. When I was at the Royal Armouries in Leeds they asked me what I thought about lined maille. I didn't have an opinion other than to mention Thordeman. Th...

The gauntlet or ram on the end of a sword or footman's spear would look goofy, IMO. I'm surprised no one has taken one of those monster dildos and made a spearhead out of that ! :) I don't know which would be more fun - fighting with it or watching it get inspected. "Hey - Hey! I don't think you ch...

14 Ga Stainless Hounskull Basinet for sale - $175.

This is another one of the helms I had taken as inventory that did not meet my standards for selling as retail. The eye slots were a bit high on the visor. To fix this, I widened the eye slots, removing material from the bottom edge. The slots are about 3/4" wide. The visor is under a bit of tension...

14 GA Stainless Klappvisor Basinet for sale

For sale: 14 gauge Stainless Steel Klappvisor Basinet. This is old stock from when I used to sell these. This helm has a couple of defects that made me not want to offer it for retail sale. How does it shoot?

I'm tempted. I just stripped and re-finished my Euroarms P1853. Stock turned out a little darker than I had hoped (I dyed it with Fiebing's brown leather dye). It's got a Whitacre competition barrel.

Has anyone tried just tumbling maille on its own? Yes. I've tumbled a lot of maille, and it is highly self-abrasive. You can get a very good cleaning just by tumbling the maille by itself. I find it hard to imagine pushing a barrel around on the ground as a polishing machine. It would be hard on th...

My center pole is a 4x4 (3.5x3.5). Aint no rope ever made going to break it.

After Mistress Bronwenn had hers snap and impale the ground opposite from where she was sleeping, I went with overkill.

16' long, no splice 4x4 for my tent.
