I don't see what's wrong with it. It looks very believeable as a mid 16th centruy piece. I'm sure that someone who knows that period better than I can find the flaws, but combine it with a plain peascod breastplate, a buff coat, tall boots and a mortuary hilt sword and everyone will know exactly wha...

Practical Viking Review Here Is a rebated sword, targeted at stage combat, ARMA, AEMMA, Adrian Empire, etc. This is not the sword you want for slicing tatami mats! Functionaly, is considered very sturdy by most owners. Problems people have are in the aesthetics department, or where POB and COP ough...

Quite so. Mention the SCA among academia at your own peril. I recently did some investigation to discover whether or not an amateur (ie: someone without their masters) could do work in experemental archaeology that would be acceptabe to the academic communtiy. Short answer: sure, but not really. Eve...

That probably ain't gonna happen. Unless you're looking for two pieces of steel, cut to your profile with handles -and from your request that the ballance be INSIDE the cross, you're not- then I'd say you're looking to underpay by more than half! Such a project -making a functional, well made saber ...

Ah, peeking out makes sense. Someone looking up seemed to make sense, too. How would a warhammer make that kind of hole??? all the way through the head to reach there??? Granted, I suppose an Estoc could have done it, but after punching all the way through a man's skull and having to pry it out, why...

Is this some joke I've missed, being away so long??? This seems so obvious I'm afraid of stumbling into a gag... Are we making fun of somone or somthing, here??? If the helmet was destroyed deliberately, why was it discarded into the moat instead of being recycled? Target practice makes sense, but t...

I don't know about the size a proportion of these things vis a vis that painting, but I do know around that time axes were used with blades "four hands wide" -that's 16 inches!!! It may be more accurate than you might think at first glance. Then again, it could be that famously medieval artistic per...

Other than the ugly tripple post, he's right. However, Deepka has improved its quality remarkably over the past several years. You'll need too look for newer models, and even then they will be below the quality of the average Del Tin (which is kind of a baseline for us sword nuts.) However, their Ro...

I think he's looking for the adjective. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/wink.gif "Fantastical" Anyway, very nice. I like the lines a lot. The difference is very simple. Instead of making one pass with a slack belt for each side of the blade, the riged blades take two passes on the 10" wheel. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/wink.gif In all seriousness, yup, they pretty much are crowbars on handles. It's not that their ballance is that...

Company of St. George put that out, right? But it's not on their website, at least not on the one linked to by Chronique.
the link got lost when I reformated, and I need a few of those copys!

All good Dio songs, but like "Heaven and Hell" and "Sign of the Southern Cross". Manowar. Darn near ANYTHING by Manowar! Late 15th Century. As Oakshotte wrote, the second half of the 15th century was one of the two times in pre-renaissance history where every weapon and piece of armour -if it was well-made- was beautiful. And if I couldn't have that, I'd want to be in one of those German Moble Infantry units Caesar hi...

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings here, but there are things you ought to know before looking seriously at this one PROBLEMS: The blade is about 20% heavier than it ought to be. Okay, now that I've made you smile...
There was a website somewhere that had exceptionaly detailed pictures of that suit of armour, including a picture of that famous armoured backside. IIRC, they were all credit< Royal Armories.
I lost the links when I re-formatted -Anybody still have them?

I rather prefer Excalibur's take. At least there were parts in that movie that were arguably done in the way the medievals envisioned King Arthur. In this one, not only did nothing like this ever exist, no one ever thought of Arthur like this, either. [img]http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/rolleyes.g...

Well, I wouldn't go that far. Some of what he does is quite impressive. take a look at his grotesques, for insntance. I know very few armourers that can turn our pieces of that kind of complexity. That second dragon helmet was especialy impressive, even with the odd little maille drape. On the other...

From all reports I've come across, the Practical Knightly is the best, most widely avalable, accurate sword for steel-on-steel combat in its price range. I've heard good reviews on Therion, on the OLD Del Tins (if you can get your hands on one), and on Lutels -you can order them with rebated blades....
