Quite right -excelent links.
Unfortunately, none what I remember seeing. This is a B&W photograph of something very much like what the Durer cavalryman is wearing, except that it has a PLATE codpiece attached.
It might have been posted on the R&A boards...

Armoured Boxer Shorts?
I recall someone posting picture of what could best be described as maille boxers with an integral codpiece.
Does anyone still have the link to it? Or the pic itself?

Thier Roman stuff is quite acceptable. As a matter of fact, it's more accurate and usable that a number of more expensive (but still mass produced) repros. According to Lego... something, minor modifications can make them surprisingly accurate. As is, they're decent weapons. But don't touch any of t...

Late 15th Cen. Arming Coats: Patterns?
After a cursory search across the net for armig coats, I've come up rather dry.
The patterns I have found are based more on padded jacks than an arming doublet.
Does anyone know a decent, at least moderately period pattern for an arming doublet, circa 1475?

Throwing spears: Problems
Much to miy chagrin, I seem to be inable to throw a spear straight. I really don't know enough to know if it's me or the spears I make. So first off, how does one make a spear that throws straight? And then, in case I've done all that, how do you throw a spear? All the spears I've made (and subseque...

If you have or have acces to a grinder, you can make quite respectable looking spikes out of plain old lag screws. Buy the kind that are screw partway, and shat partway. The screw -obviously- goes in the wood, and the shaft gets ground into nice, SQUARE, tapering spikes. If you grind them round or t...

Yes! Thanks Otter. That is indeed what I meant. Now, as to your way... I can see one advantage -assuming you don't want to do it just 'cause it's period, if indeed it is. Putting a straight pipe around the wood in a function like this creates a stress point, and if you don't protect it (put a shim u...

Is the piece polishe to mirror finish? If not, it's probably a high grit sandpaper finish. What you can do is take a pice of "test" metal, like armouring scraps, and a slew of differnt grit sandpapers, and start sanding the scrap and comparing it to your weapon. More than likely, you'll find a close...

If you can drill the two holes for the tassle and clean up the piece on a hand grinder (or have a friend do it?), all the welder would have to do would be cut out the blade, and weld a piece of pipe to it for your handle-socket. To make it as inexpensive as possible, do all the prepratory work yours...

Are you actualy going to put an edge on that? Are you going to CUT with it? IF you're not -and I really think you won't- then you REALLY ought to go with Mild Steel. People around here have this funny hangup about spring or high carbon steel. I guess it's because all the good swords and armour are m...

The falchion is FAST. I feel a little guilty swinging it, I think it's GOT to be underweight and disproportioned, but I LOVE it. I cut about an inch into the blade to give me room to put on a cross, and when I taped on the hilt and pommel from a large dagger I made, it moved the balance up to FOUR I...

I, sir, do not care what kind of oath was spoken or given. Anything that was there, he shattered it himself. He LIED to you, and then he made you LIE for him. That is some serious 'effing shit. GET OUT. Do not tolerate that kind of horse puckey, and have the spine to stick to your guns. Forgive him ...
