Get a different sheave ("pulley") and step it down more. Seriously, do this . Take it to a motor shop and they'll set you up. You're right, a rheostat or potentiometer will not get you where you need to go; if you really want to change the motor speed you have to go with a VFD freak drive,...

Sorry, sorry, didn't mean to jump all over you at all, just the misconception. In my humble opinion, this is just as big a myth as lightsaber swords and crane-lifted knights. Bigger, perhaps, since it's perpetuated by people who ought to know better.

As far as I'm concerned, that's nothing but an old wives' tale -that far too many people cling to, and for questionable reasons. This is NEVER brought up in regards to any other piece of armour, no matter how complex the shape (15th century wasp-waistd breastplates and floating elbows are prime exam...

I sort by region and century. What I would really, REALLY like to do is do away with folders altogether, and tag my images with information for country, date, style, type(s) of armor and image provenance; so that I can set a preference and look at everything from the 15th century all over the world,...

No. Why? There has to be a point to using a different quenching medum. The point of brine is that the saline solution raises the boiling point by another twenty degrees or so F, so you can raise the temperature of the tank for a softer quench without your quenching medium evaporating. The boiling po...

I would avoid a wire wheel or cup for this... one of the few admirable qualities that I've found with the wire bobs is that they can and will reach into almost wvery little nook and crannie. Don't sand. Well, not much anyway. Beyond that, that's just the texture of worked metal. There's a lot of ways of getting that look; none of them involve polishing. Hi there Destichado, I think HF anvils are great for weekend smiths. The reason you think the HF ones are the cats ass is because you havent had a real one im guessing. Exactly how the sleeve of Her dress has ended up inside the mail sleeve is a bit of a mystery to me, though. I should think its because artists draw what looks cool, and don't understand armour. Don't be so quick do dismiss the work of artists who have a hell of a lot more technical ability than an...

Okay, you *could* go with the railroad track anvil. But given that you say you're poor and want a starter anvil, you probably don't have the tools to cut one out yourself.
