I need some help with identifying a hat and cote
Hi all, In Phoebus' Book of the Hunt I found this image of a huntsman. This particular manuscript is dated circa 1410. I think that the cote is a houpeland variant, but I am not positive. What I am most interested in is the hat....

I think that there might be a little confusion becouse in the title of the first post, Sir Vitus uses the word hurt. Within the text of the question, the word injure is used. Within the context of the contests that we engage in, we are trying to "hurt" each other. We cause physical discomfort and ac...

I am very pleased that Sir Garreth recieves such high praise. His product is one of the best gambesons directed at S.C.A. fighting. I can not say that I had a good experience, as I ended up cancelling my order with him. Sir Garreth is very up front as to his production schedule, which I appreciate. ...

Hello Gest, I hope that you will forgive me for being dense, but I am unure as to which item you are responding to. I think that you are responding to the bargrill documentation. I (personally) am unconcerned about their use, but wanted to express my opinion as to their historical use. In any case, ...

Concerning the cross-dressing of women As an aside and having nothing to with the discussion- Once worked at a theatrical costume shop that did Holloween rentals. I once had a lady try on an Italian Ren outfit. Oh my stars and garters! Ever since, I have loved to see women wear mens 14th and 15th c...

A dagger is much lighter and can be easily laced to the plaque belt or the jupon, not needing a sturdier belt beneath, like in your viable theory, Gethin. -Tasha Why thank you! I've got warm fuzzies now. The dagger lacing (or attached) to the belt is quite possible. I went with suspended by a belt ...

Gilbert did say "According to SCA organization policies: "All persons are assumed to be of noble lineage." Now.. how that person actually dresses themselves is up to them. But for the Emprise, there will be standards. Just a reminder." Gilbert, you are quite right about the SCA expectation. With th...

Hypothesis concerning hip belts
I recently had a theory pop into my head concerning hip/plaque belts. As seen in these two images Insde view sword sitting on hip The sword belt is underneath and passes through slits in the jupon (term used as found on the site) and the scabbard sits at the hip. What if there was also slits for the...

Kit Requirements for the Emprise of the Golden Rope
Greetings To enable the discussion for the requirements to coherent, this thread has been created. I will be happy to adjust the title if we need seperate discussions on martial kits (participants of the tourney) and civilian (spectator). How authentic should the kits be? Skin out or will there be c...

Hi, I would say that they look nice. Basic shape is good and you put a very nice finish on them. The creasing on the metacarpal looks a tad odd to me. I think that it appears that creases are too severe (deep) and small (width). I think that the gauntlet will end up riding to far from the hand, inst...

Note another historically-based option is that you can wear a sword belt ---AND--- a plaque belt. The sword belt goes around the real waist (and carries the sword) and the plaque belt goes about the hips (and carries the dagger). I recently had a theory pop into my head concerning this. As seen in ...

For noncombattants, we should just have examples of what is acceptable dress from head to toe for different stations. Then they will be allowed on that day or not. It is upto them to make sure they have it correct. Once again I ask.... Finally, how restrictive will the rules be? Period fabric, no o...
