Here's me a few weeks ago, looking all ridiculously SCA as has been pointed out to me elsewhere by Peder (who dislikes my hood and also the fact that I'm wearing a fillet because it seems so SCA-typical to him, but please note he's not insulting the quality of the workmanship, because it's gorgeous ...

FYI: Bibliotheca Corviniana Digitalis (Hungarian schtuff!)
Not sure who will want to know this, but I got notice from a friend who is a fan of Hungarian history that the Corvinus Library is being digitized and put online and that includes a wealth of medieval texts.

You may find some interest in the similar sleeve tailoring found on the Kragelund tunic, which is dated much earlier, and to Danish origin (as opposed to Greenland). The similarity lies in the separate pieces for upper and lower sleeve pieces, joined with a small triangular gore in the middle. m Thi...

The seams are probably straight in most instances because there are no seams in some of those extant examples; the fabric is simply one long piece with a hole for the head; a simple way to go about things, certainly... but that doesn't mean that a sloped and seamed shoulder area isn't documentable t...

Hhhmmm. I will probably be in the Dallas area for a weekend in early July doing another fitting for a martial garment, so I was thinking that I could offer to at least fit you for and provide you with a custom jupon pattern, which you could take to a seamstress to finish. That's, like, 3 hours away ...

Gerhard, have you joined the aotc yahoo group yet? If you're a member and signed in to yahoo, this link should work: m This is a really easy-to-follow diagram showing you how to make eyelets in the 14thc manner as found in English extant bits. It was created by Charles Mellor (in the SCA Master Rash...

Slip knots work well, IMO. Gather your two ends together (or loop over a single strand so that you have two, also called a bight) and tie the slip knot so that it's easy to untie later. IIRC, some images from the 15thc show this sort of arrangement, but nothing is springing specifically to mind righ...

So does all this back and forth polite arguing mean that my initial question re: whether or not we can rule out that Hohenklingen's padded aventail is in fact sitting over a standard is still open? You coming, by the way? I am thinking of buying a some tents and running a tent hostel for fliers. If you have a female tent, yeah. I'm not sleeping anywhere near those loud snorers known as men! Crazy request -- can you rename the event now to give it a more medieval feel? The whole "hi-fi" thing keeps making me think of stereo equipment, which is the last thing I want to be thinking of when I think of a gathering like this. Maybe take a name from the historical texts of a deed of arms that...
