For the sake of clarity, this was a Blankenshield reference and has no ties to reality whatsoever.Ingvarr wrote:All edges on all armour at all times had rolled edges. Any extent pieces that don't have rolled edges is because museums cut them off.

Pretty interesting stuff so far. My mother sent me what my father had compiled along with some of his source material. It stalls out pretty badly mid 17th Century when they came from England, but apparently he was of Norman decent and she was from a family with some Plantagenet ties. Will be fun to ...

I've always sided with Harold and the Saxons. In doing some genealogical research though, it appears that it is likely that an ancestor moved to England in 1066 with William.

Some people do a collective where one person drives a big truck or trailer with many people's gear and the rest fly. Some people fly and buy a cheap tent for the event. Some people drive. Some people have a stripped down kit for packing on planes, see Aarons flight light flight fight suit, or Duke L...

I don't coddle whiners. Instead you lead them? The biggest argument I can think of for the tube arrows is the rules. No other weapon can be less than 1 1/4" and I really don't see why arrows should be any different, especially since people who have used the tube arrows say that they are usable...

Maybe the different form of salute is intended to recognize a different form of respect and honor towards a brother in arms than to one's liege or lady. I know that the salute that I give my lady is different than those that I give to the crown(coronet, et al) or my opponent.

See, that's where your desire to be offended isn't helping you out at all. If you go look through HE Jonathan's posts, you'll find that he has more than once referred to SCA combat as a sport. Sport fighting isn't an insult, it's what we do. We fight for fun, trying to best, not kill, our opponent.

First, while I am much in favor of CA sticking around, I never said it was essential to the SCA, I'd rather you not misquote me. not our problem to fix. However I can (and have) thought of several ways for CA to work just fine on its own. Blackbow I don't think that spinning CA off would work. I don't think very many hardsuit fighters would play with them. Even the people who are very vocally pro-CA would have better things ...

Without targets they would get bored and CA would die off. Then there would be a lot of complaining abou...

Re: Etiquette on the war field
I'm not putting a sticker on it. No way. I'd go find someone to do one on one work or grab my beat up helm that I started with. In fact I'd probably be better off not using the fancy helm for wars at all. As far as the arm bands couldn't they be placed on your sword arm? Then your shield wouldn't b...

Wow, someone snuck in a thinly veiled combat archery reference by page 2! Deliberate destruction of someone else's property is a bullshit move. And yes, the spearrman who deliberately lodges his spear in a haybale to make a trip line is being a douche too. . Read closer, CA came up on the first page.

Re: [SCA] Is deliberate spear breaking legal?
It's not explicitly against the rules at the Society level. I *think* I recall examples of deliberate weapon-breaking in deeds of arms (but I don't care enough to spend any time looking it up). So someone might argue that it's not against the spirit of martial deeds. Self-evidently a person who eng...

angelknight, It looks pretty nice even without the mail so you could remove the mail and save a few pounds. Maybe replace it with a leather drape. Then again, some of the mail weight will rest on your shoulders instead of your neck.

Google translate puts it into Icelandic as ekki allir sem reika eru glötuð. Not sure on the grammar as it fails sometimes but it seems to do OK. In my understanding, Icelandic is the closest modern language to Old Norse.
