Re: Polearms fighters: How do YOU set up your best shots?

It's second nature around here. We get it bashed into our heads over and over that if you fight at range with a pole or spear you WILL die. Taking away their range takes away their advantage. Generally in a melee situation, if they are hanging back and not charging, some nice gentleman with a white ...

Re: Polearms fighters: How do YOU set up your best shots?

My money shot is to get a shield to charge me. They almost always throw at the head so I do a high block and butt spike them in the face. Two other shots that work fairly well are to swing short of their body. Let them block, stopping your pole in front of them, then thrust. Last is the shovel shot....

Pretty sure that's been banned as a war crime. Seriously though, wouldn't mind seeing a battle between bagpipes and those damned Caidan torturedcats.

Sucks that it got stolen and I really hope that it turns up, but leaving it in the back of the truck wasn't the safest storage.

If it could move across the street and coordinate with the mine to have a lava light tourney, it would be the shit. Probably less safe than tiki torches though.

It seems like positive pressure would fall somewhere in the range of directed touch to substantially lighter which would allow the kingdoms to use it as a rule if desired, wouldn't it?

It's not really much more of a conflict than before. 10 days separating them next year as opposed to 20 this year.

We ignore them. I'll usually tell someone that their shot was low, if low was the problem, just so they know that I acknowledge it and why I didn't take it. Seems to be the most common way to handle it here.

Re: How to Register a Grievance with the Order of the Laurel

I didn't read the OP as "I want the laurels to fix this for me," as much as "This person is acting in a way unbecoming a peer and I want their order to be aware of it." I seem to be pretty outnumbered in my interpretation so I may be dead wrong.

Aventail without a gorget is legal. Doesn't mean you won't have marshals try to bounce you.

Here is a question that I have: Where does it say that marshalls can lay hands on a person and/or physically remove people from the field? I have not seen that mentioned in this thread. Is this something that happened to you? On a side note, the day before, another marshal was permanently removed f...

Agreed. Anyone who bathes is just spitting in the face of the founders of the society and those we try to emulate and are dishonorable and are unworthy of facing. If anyone faces me that I fail to smell over my own funk, I will yield the fight to them and talk about them later when they aren't around.

The trouble with mottos is that they are or should be, personal. It's hard to assign a motto to an anonymous person. At least for me.

It is, admittedly, not easy for the majority of people to get "in character" (and stay there). Most of us are not trained improvisational actors. Only a few of us have a genuine flair for that sort of thing. But for the most part, it is no longer the case in the SCA that there is any expe...
