Sha- ul, That looks OK! Make another one or two in copper, and you will be ready to do it in silver. Mac I called on some sheet brass, they had 14& 18. for the 14ga, a piece 12"X12" was $55 I have some 18& 16 ga stainless though.... what thicknesses have you found conducive to rai...

Ok I;ve made one set of coat of plates. Now with yet another deployment coming up and being informed this one is not going to combat heavy as my previouse ones I'm thinking of makeing a new set of gear. Minimal space and tools of coarse. the only copper I have is ~22 ga....I have some 20 ga brass, but I suppose this is too thin.
What do you recommend thickness wise?

well at least my 1st attempt that went past the "saucer" stage (those were aluminum) I used the bottom of an old coffee can as the pattern, started raising on a 2"ball, and took to completion on my 2" round stock T stake http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s294/russell_smith93/for...

it doesn't sound like mild, what kind of shop did you get this at? I doubt it is a36 hell it almost sounds like heat treated 4130 or 1050.

We use Fedex Ground alot, but Greyhound will also take large packages like car hoods for you, cheaply. They just have to be picked up at the station. greyhound is not a bad idea.... I would suggest looking at the freight haulers in your area.... yellow,roadway overnight express(now ups freight) fed...
