4130 season again

I made a trip down to the surplus store recently,& they have more 4130 sheet on hand. Different sizes than last fall some is in pieces 18X72 others are 36X72. some limited cutting will be available. especially since 72" sheets are a pain to handle. cost will be [edit]$1.20[/edit] per pound+...

I see what you saying Hal, but if you look at your design, its a little weaker structuraly. The area that protects the chin is only connected to the rest by 2 small 'bars", the area below the nose with four "bars", In that case I would want thicker metal. If there were and outer edge...

ayup, that indeed it is.
based upon the reading I've done I reckon it should have the dent resistance of 16g mild.

although if I were to attempt welding it I bet I'd have to have a tig. with very good amperage control.

Something like the piece you describe was used to defend the inside of the elbow joint on one of Henry VIII ths armour. There is a pic of one in TOMAR. By reversing the joint you can get an articulation that collapses when a joint is closed. you mean compressive articulation like this http://i155.p...
