WTB pavillion

I have been engaged to teach at a camping event, and wish to do so in style. Accordingly, I am in the market for a used pavilion, or a new one at reasonable prices. Said pavilion should be able to fit a queen-sized bed, not leak in the rain, and look reasonably medieval. Ideal would be a 12'–14' rou...

Duke Eduard was blinded by a broken rapier blade that penetrated his mask and severed his optical nerve. Actually it was a longsword and I was wearing a great helmet. *-( This is probably a painful subject, but if you don't mind, I'd like details so that I can better ensure my own students' safety....

(MA) Talk on Fight-Books as Historical Sources

If anyone is in or around Amherst, MA this Wednesday, I am giving a talk entitled "Medieval and Early Modern Fight-Books as Historical Sources" on Wednesday at the UMass Renaissance Center. See http://www.umass.edu/renaissance/calendar.htm for details.

Hmmmn. Good price, but could you make them either to take a 1.25" wooden connector-shaft and tip (as HE sells), or make a step-down connector so they'd take a socket and tip?

If it was quilted and had buckles on it, wouldn't it be an arming cote instead of a surcoat? An arming coat is a foundation garment; a surcoat is by definition an over-layer. The helmet can still buckle down to it, though. (As far as I can tell, it's a very 14th/early 15th c. way to attach your hel...

yea but should it be quilted too a bit?

Not necessarily. I'm looking for a well-fitted, sturdy (and hip-length) surcoat I can strap my helmet to. Obviously I'd sew the buckles on myself.

If you are interested in the use and context of medieval fechtbücher, I explore it in detail in my introduction to Agrippa. New Year's Resolution

One percent of fencing* is thinking, 99% is doing. For all the threads on all the fora, content and actual insight is rather rare. Mostly, it's the same old cliches and arguments hashed over and over again. Therefore, for the month of January, whenever I think about posting something "profound&...

One, we are talking about fencers, not duelists. Duelists fight with sharp weapons. I have seen many rapier blades break, especially Hanweis. They can be quite jagged. Thankfully, no accidents. I personally never fence without a 350N jacket and strong mask. Triplette makes jackets that look quite re...

Indian-made barbute for sale

Don't know why I still have this; it's one of those Indian-made costume helmets. Gently used as a dress helmet for equestrian stuff. Holes punched for chin straps. Manky foam padding not included. Will let it go for $50 + shipping. Here's a similar (mine has brass trim): http://www.medievalware.com/...

Treeless Spanish/joust saddle for sale

This is a Hilason treeless Spanish saddle. Used once by me and once by prior owner; minor scuffs. Comes with Western-style stirrups and girth. I will be open with the negatives: The stirrup leathers slide and need to be riveted down, and I didn't feel very secure without a rigid tree. Still, a nice ...
