I can't speak to the weight of the actual piece in Switzerland, but if by Jeffrey you mean Jeffrey Forgeng then I believe what he says. Yep, Jeffrey Forgeng. I *can't* believe that the original is as flexible as these things are--if it is, then either somethings been done to it since its working li...

Hugh: The federfechters aren't so bad; Jeffrey says they're about the same in weight and whippiness as the originals. I have been able to do quite a lot from the bind (by which I mean legamento or engagement) with them; the trick is knowing where your edge is.

Ugh! Barbed wire sucks. It can kill horses. I hope his injuries aren't serious and he recovers.

Well, I suppose that sort of thing was inevitable. The SCA reflects the society that birthed it - the modern United States in general and sci-fi fandom in particular - which are, after all, democratic and inclusive communities. I suppose the way to do it "right" would be to do it medievall...

Back when I did SCA stuff, over a decade ago, the tournament companies were where it was at.

Now, with the cut-and-thrust rules, I'd be curious to see what similar events would be like with steel weapons.

And horses. :)

Marie of Burgundy was someone who hunted from horseback, tragically, it was a riding accident during a hawking outing that brought about her premature death. Her horse spooked, she was thrown and was trampled. This story has a happy ending. [img]http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/beer/archives/d...

Oy! You'll schvitz to death!

But yeah, seems like it, right? Wonder if it adds any defense vs. firearms. Would also be a logical evolution to the buff coat.

There are some points on the hotpants (or whatever they're called) in the pic you posted, likely for the leg harness.

When I see 'smock' I think 'loose fitting', and when I see 'doublet' I think 'close-fitting'. Well, then, some sort of over-doublet or something. I note a lack of points; presumably in this period the arm and shoulder defenses attach to the gorget, which takes much of the weight. Mac would be able ...

I'm going to differ with Saritor; I don't think that doublet is the right idea. Ken Mondschein has the right of it - he often does! It's my job. However, if you look at the Moroni and the above illustration that Gwen posted, it seems the arming doublet is more of a smock over the civilian clothes. ...

Thanks, Joe. AmFencers sells only #4 foil blades or false-ricasso. Allstar makes #5's, but alas, they suck. The older ones are much better.

Italian épée blades (real ones, no false ricasso) are simply not made any more.

WTB true-ricasso Italian foil or épée blades

It occurred to me that some folks on this board might have some sitting around. They're rarer than hen's teeth nowadays, and so if you have any in usable shape in your closet, I'd be willing to take them off your hands. Just Italian true-ricasso blades, please, unless you have something super-sweet.

Does this leave a gap if you bend your leg in a modern or medieval riding position?
