I'll help as much as I can. James G. , or Jeff H. Could give you better answers. The fronts are not connected with hinges to the back like the Italian ones. At least not any I've seen. There is always a leather strip running down the center of the fauld. I think the sides were often on sliding rivet...

Thats the truth! And the price I gave is for 18 gauge mild, youd be pounding out dents all the time, and while the fluting makes it stronger it also makes it harder to repair.I'd save up and by a few spring steel pieces at a time if I were you. I had a gothic harness (diff than the one you pictured)...

Valentines gothic design is actually better. Not perfect , but pretty good. I think he charges about 6000 for one now.He had about a 12 -14 month backlog last time i checked. He takes 50% down, and the balence due on completion. You could always get a few parts at a time, I've been buying parts for my...

No, really we were lucky, I lived in Louisville when I started. A guy named Louis Ray (sheetmetal worker) let us use his dads shop to make armour. Everybody in the Barony of the Flame had steel cops for knees and elbows, coats of plates, spualders, decent spangenhelms, and steel cuisses if wanted. We...

It seems to depend on the period too. The few 16th cent evamples I've seen all have toe caps with flat bottoms to fit under the shoe. The 15th cent examples mainly have leather straps going under the foot. I think all of these are later restorations, however I think they were replacing original conf...

You can drill them out, if you have a dremel tool with grinding stone, you can grind them out. I think the best way , (if its not peened to tight) is to use "nippers" to cut the peened part off. no risk of marring the metal..Otto

Were assymetrical arms with the extra elbow guard still the norm in 1490? As I recall arms became symmetric and the extra guard was lost as the end of the century approached. Also, can we assume an armet? Yes, they were still used well into the end of the 16th century. The reinforceing pieces even ...
