H. E. Breastplate review
Over the Thanksgiving weekend I recieved my 14th cent. spring steel.breastplate from Jeffrey Hedgecock At Historic Enterprises. It is one fine peice of armour. The fit and finish are excellent. the lines spot on, the bronze buckles sexy, and leathers fine. The box roll on the neck is amazing. Not su...

I got a norman cut about 15 years ago. It was supposed to be a regular haircut, but the barber must have had a rough time getting the back even,so he kept takingoff a little more and a little more. I didnt know what was going on untill he finally finished and spun me round in the chair towrds the mi...

Naval jelly has some type of acid, It works great, but you must be very carefull, as it eats away the steel. leave it on too long and you get a dull grey pitted surface.Quite a few old pieces of steel (armour, weapons ect.) have been ruined and the value reduced because of acid cleaning.I'd never us...

Man, info on this period seems sketchy at best, at least with the references I've got. But it seems the pauldron starts coming into use about 1430. But isnt fully developed until about 1450, (maybe as early as 1440). The few early pauldons are pretty odd looking. I cant find any surviving examples,j...

On a side note, I have an old Spangen helm (sca) I made about 17 years ago. Murdoch and I put it on the ground, and on a pell, whupped it hard as we could with an Cris Poore flanged mace. A few small dents, Very light penetration cuts in the metal about 1/4" long. virtualy no real damage to the helm...

Get a professional assessment of your shoulder injury. Complicated joints like the shoulder raley get better on their own if they are damaged. It is quite possible there is a condition at work in your shoulder that will cause you further trouble if not corrected. As far as fighting off-handed, slow...

I pretty much agree with the rest. I've handled quite a few 16th century pieces and a couple of 14th cent pieces. Average thickness on arm, elbow, gauntlets, legs, knees, greaves, sabatons is probably 18-20 gauge. Pauldrons often as thin, sometimes a little thicker maybe up to 17 or 16 gauge. Backplat...

I've had real good luck with Hedgecock,Overall a grade of "A" on craftsmanship. on the plus side he does excellent work, the stuff is very accurate with smooth crisp lines, looks and functions like the real mcoy. Also you dont pay anything till the work is finished. And with his med carbon steel, it...

The Vikings, inhabitants of Scandinavia from 800 to 1100, traded with, and raided, much of Europe, often settling there. They invaded and conquered England in 1013. Man, I may be wrong but that seems like an oversimplification at best. It seems to me Like they had a Saxon King, that beat the Vikings...
