My research indicates you should be using an arming coat to suspend -all- of your armour, as JeffJ suggests. All answers so far state that the reason you're using an "arming pourpoint" instead of an arming coat is because you can't get an arming coat that works the way it ought to, so you use 2 garm...

Ahhhh Yes, forgot to add that the pourpoint has to be worn under the arming coat. If worn over the coat, arm movement affects the leg harness.I think you should keep on making them Gwen. You may not sell a million of them, but you should sell quite a few, and make those quite a few customers very hap...

Hey Gwen, It seems to me that two garments are needed. When arm harness and spaulders are pointed to a sleeve, and the arm is raised, the lower hem of that garment raises. If the cuisses are pointed to this garment, the cuissses tend to "ride up" the leg. With a seperate sleveless pourpoint like you...

Rivet question?
I know some folks use shortened nails for rivets. Valentine for one does it this way. On the harness he made for me, the flat head of the nail is on the inside of the plate with a perfectly formed domed head to the outside. I'm thinking there must be a tool, perhaps like a punch, with a convavity gr...

I use a two layer linen pourpointe(sleveless) that Gwen at Black Swan (HE) made me to point the cuisses to. It works great. The greaves support most of the weight of the cuisse. I'm going to get an arming coat to point my spaulders and arm harness to.I'll wear the arming coat over the pourpoint. I u...

Robert MacPherson has got to be my favorite, though I only own one helm that he made. I really love Jeffery Hedgecocks work. it seems he has been getting all my commisions as of late. Rob Valentine does good work. But his apprentices do most of the labor now, and the quality is very good but not real...

I may be wrong here, but I was under the impression yhat the quarterings did not have to be, father, mother, paternal grandmother and maternal grandmother, although thats the way the quarters usually were displayed.I think If for example your father had 4 quarters you would be ok, even if your mother...

Hey Drachus, check out Jehans thread on "Material Culture of a 14th century Esquire". Lots of good ideas there and a fairly complete checklist of goodies. You wouldnt have to aquire everything on the list, unless you want to portray an esquire, but its a good thing to look over and decide at least wh...

Hey Drachus, Hats were popular, You can use a simple linen coif, Gwen sells them for 10 or 12 bucks. They look like a hard hat liner, my wife calls em baby hats. I'm not familiar with the boot company your talking about. They might be ok. Simple pointed toe turnshoes seem to be the norm.I still need ...

Would full pauldrons with high guards be appropriate for a 14th century kit? They are the bottom right ones here. I have plain spaulders but these pauldrons look so damn cool I'm afraid those are 15th century, but the good news is that simple spaulders would be fine, and inexpensive. This sounds good...

I'm pretty sure these were mass produced in Spain, I'm seen quite a few suits of the same pattern over the years. Not sure of the years these armours were made, I'd say they quit making them 50 or so years ago. I've seen some examples that show quite a bit of age. Some might be 100 years old but I do...

I've got the same problem with mine. Cant close my lower cannons. I was thinking of having the wife remove the liner, remove the padding, reinstall the liner without padding. I think it would be lighter, cooler and less stiff. The only thing is, its such a nice, well made garment, I hate to butcher ...

I remember that movie. In my opinion the armour was pretty accurate. Its been awhile since I've seen it. It seems like the arm and leg harness was verygood, closely matching examples from the effigys. It seems the gauntlets and helmets might have been off a bit. Cant really remember for sure. I need...

Historic Enterprises Pourpoint Reveiw
Gwen over at H.E. Was kind enough to let me be the "guinea pig" for a pourpoint pattern she wants to put into production soon.
