But....When Murdoch and I were finished sparring, he was showing me some fecthbuch moves at slow speed, and ran his sword between my beavor and visor. The tip of the sword went "thunk" against the rolled edge of the beavor, hiting it hard enough to jam it into my chin. If not for the rolled edge I mig...

Hi Richard, the confimation card should do the trick, you may want to take a copy of the cancelled check also. I rejoined about 2 years ago,and never even got a confimation notice! LOL, come to think of it, I never got my membership card either. I just took a copy of the blank check, and a copy of m...

I've tried it with murdoch, we used 2 handed rebated del tins. No thrusting allowed, though head shots were allowed as long as they were slashes. we went full speed, and I pulled the blows a little ,though murdoch said he used regular rattan force. We both wore full plate, both lived , had a blast! I...

I'm assuming you have a barrel helm or great helm. You probably would want a leather suspension liner styled like the type you would find in a construction hard hat, or military helmet. This combined with the padded arming cap might be just what you need and would be historicaly correct also. Otto

I've got a German example from the last quarter of the 16th century. The blade is about 3/8" thick at the shaft, quickly going to about 1/16". looking at the cross section its like a letter Y with the upper branches of the Y being very concave. Hope this helps....Otto

Thats a very tricky design, I think you'll be in for alot of tinkering to get it to work correctly, that could be why we dont see that many actual surviving examples. It must have been difficult to do in the 16th cent, and just as difficult today. I dont think there are very many armourers around who ...

I think your ok with that for early 14th cent. The splinted armour would be a little old fashoned for that date, but I would think it could still be seen on the battlefield 1400-1410 anyway....Otto

If it was real life and death combat, I'd go for the pauldrons for protection but you do sacrifice some movement. Spaulders give better freedom of movement, but slightly less protection. I'm partial to spaulders myself, but pauldrons do look nice on a full harness. Its kind of a yin yang thing. Like ...

The amount of damage on that piece made me think the wearer was actually fending off blows using his arm as a shield, sacrificing his arm to save his head.Makes sense really,a broken arm you can live with, but if stunned for only a few seconds, your at your opponents mercy, and he could beat you uncons...

The Salade could have been cracked in battle also,If it was hardened a good blow would be more likely to crack the metal than dent it. I had a left 16th cent vambrace, with a crack that was hammer welded back together. Also, there was a sword cut that pierced the steel, making about a 1" long cut thr...

The Gothic is sweet ,Axel Guttman actually composed this suit from parts himself. The backplate, before restoration, is pictured in "Alte Waffen" the "Battenberg Antiquitaeten-Kataloge" It sold through an auction house before 1979.He added the 1st plate of the fauld, and changed the bottom plate out...
