They do seem to extend as far from the helm as the vervelles, making them good deflectors if thats what they are. Sounds pretty logical to me.Those tube vervelles do look a little flimsy. Also a steel sword can really slide across the steel, more so than rattan,so a downward stroke could slide down the...

Rewritten history of Medieval north America
I've given this some thought, and apparently most of what we know is wrong. In about the year 600AD,massive waves of celts invaded noth america, conquering the natives and establishing a huge kingdom on the Western coast, soon all of north america was under their control.Hearng of the great success of ...

I was gonna keep my mouth shut on the other to threads, and probably should here, but, that Blankenship stuff is a very poor example of historic armour. Its not to bad for fantasy I guess, but for him to claim its authentic in any respect is unpardonable. I must admit I did kind of like the looks of t...

I got my coif on Friday, and I must say I'm pleased. Looks to be well made. Fits great.I wish the rings were flatened, but for the price,I cant complain! For 98 bucks it was a heck of a deal.Seems like they polished it as well, I dont think its plated but is sure is bright.Anyone think they may have ...

Hey Stephan, I purchased a set of Christians "gothic" arm and leg harness. I had spaulders made instead of pauldrons. Wade is right, its not really gothic, but looked pretty close to some of the early 15th cent armour, like that which was used at Agincourt. I was shooting for a harness circa 1410 at ...

In my opinion,The piece in the first pic, is authentic. It looks like they cut a small piece off, probably to make a patch for another peice of armour. The large tasset in the second pic looks real, the smaller one may be an old copy, made to match the large one,or could have come off another similar a...

I dont think its to improbable for the pair of plates in the Met to be close to the original configuration. This was a time of experimentation, and many odd thinks might have been created. I do remember reading that Dean reused all the original rivits when recovering the armour in velvet. This makes m...

Rob Valentine makes them also, I think the price is $750 US. On the web site they are listed as being 18 gauge,I had him use 16 gauge on the main breast plates, there was no extra charge for that to me.He might do the same for you.I would recomend perhaps asking for a suede covering as opposed to th...
