Its almost impossible to see in the pic, but there were sliding rivits in the front, hidden by the washers. Note square and irregular homemade washers, typical for old armour, seems they just snipped off a piece of plate whenever washers were needed.Remnants of some old petrified leather visable...Otto

OK, Thanks guys, I still think all the plates used came from remnants of COP's found. He may have had two backplates and one breast for example, and spliced them together, making a fauld from a back.He did reuse all original rivets from the plates for replacing the velvet covering,so I suspect it may ...

I'm aware of the argument that the configuration at the Met may not be historically accurate. The 1st time I ever heard this was here on the AA board. What is the main reference for the the plates not belonging together? A recent study? Just getting very curious, thanks, otto

Well Norman, the SCA heraldic systym is loosely based on Enlish heraldry. It really doesnt have anything to do with Germanic heraldry. In Germany there are quite a few divisions and charges you wont see in England. In Europe family arms were more important than personal arms.Sure, some of the High nobi...

Polish Heraldry !

A bit of trivia on Polish heraldry for those interested. A quote from "Heraldry of the World" by Carl v.Volborth. "Most of the divisions and charges common to the rest of European heraldry are almost unknown in Poland. On the other hand many Polish caots of arms have various rune like and cipher like...

I should add this, while I believe its Ok to display arms in France,The use of any title is a no no.If you claim to be the Duke of Bourbon,or a Prince ect.Even if its a legitimate claim,I think you might get in BIG trouble,Man those guys can hold a grudge LOL..Otto
