Re: sears?
Otto - your sword and armor probably were made by Marx. Those were the "toys" that inspired my life long obsession. As to the linked Sears "Grace Collection" helmet - do you think the ad repeated "Clamshell Close Helm with Chain Mail Aventail" "Clamshell Close Helm with Chain Mail Aventail" "Clamsh...

Re: Making a DelTin Thoughter
I know there are at least two types of Del tin. The old ones were made from German steel from the Krupp works, then they changed to a different cheaper steel. Then to confuse matters further, MR , who sold del tin in the US, started selling knockoffs of their patterns from Pakistan or India? Those h...

http://www.wz-newsline.de/lokales/rhein-kreis-neuss/neuss/60-tote-auf-dem-turnierplatz-1.615169 According to this article it was 60-100 dead. But was it hot tempers or hot weather? Hmmm...I might belive the hot tempers were more to blame. perhaps its an old PC version of the story to make the knight...

Re: How did the men-at-arms in southern europe deal with hea
And sometimes they didnt deal with it well. At the tournament at Neuss (Germany) in 1241, over eighty knights are said to have died, having suffocated in their helmets from the heat and dust. I think they liked to launch major military ventures in the cooler months when possible. Plate armour is ver...

Re: What makes a pair of greaves good?
I think if they have the proper shape they may or may not fit. If they dont have the proper shape they cant fit anyone. I'm not an armourer (though I've dabbled) but I believe they are the most difficult pieces to make properly. The complex curves have to be done by a "sculptor in steel" Good...

But, you'll also notice, hes using his great helm for his pillow. So, while highly decorative, its still fully funtional. At this time, they would still wear the great helm over the great bacinet for the tourny.

Re: Need ideas for an Orle
As a side note, the hardest blow I ever recieved was from a rubber mace head. More force than from a two handed Del Tin! The Orle is a padded wreath that fits between the bacinet and great helm, and works kinda like a suspension liner...in a way. The torse fits on the outside of a great helm, and I ...

Re: great helm torse questions
Your welcome! And how they attach, I'm not sure. There are often pairs of holes around the top for fastening the crest with laces. I'm thinking the torse was maybe sewn to the mantle or cape and those attached to the crest somehow. Maybe laced on to the crest? Or everything (crest, mantle and torse)...
