Re: Making a Calf Casts
I made some for Hedgecock to use, I dont remember that much about it, but YES use jelly and saran wrap on your legs! The only problem I had was the casts were slightly damaged in shipping. Thinking back on it, I should have filled the thin molds with plaster and sent the actual cast of my legs inste...

Re: blunted steel - what is the real fifference?
I think a sword could pierce armour, but it would have to be a good sword with a strong arm behind it and really crappy thin armour. And the crappy armour would probably still save your life. Its hard to cut steel, even with steel.

Re: May 12-13 2012 armour study session - North Carolina, US
I hadnt had that much fun since I went to Wades last year. The only other time I had that much fun was 31 years ago at the Harding museum. Mr. LeTiger (sp?) also let me play with things. The wife and I got a private tour from 9am-about 6pm. The time flew by, We didnt stop for lunch, when I realized ...

Re: blunted steel - what is the real fifference?
Thats very true. You can stun a guy with a sword if you hit him hard enough in the head, you can also stab through the chinks. But the other weapons were much more effective against plate.

Going out on a limb here, but I believe they were used in battle by some. It would have been a good way to identify people in a crowd when you couldnt see the device on their shields. I think the Germans used them more often in this fashion. They really love flashy stuff, think red aircraft in the 1...

Re: blunted steel - what is the real fifference?
Heres my story, when I started in the SCA, as a much younger man, (early thirties) I was told to use full force, hit as hard as I could and swing through the target. I was cracking shields, tearing up armour and hitting people to hard causing bad bruises, I think I fractured a guys rib once. Some sa...

Re: $500 for spring Chartres legs & frontal greaves & sabs
Seems it would be easiest, and less paypal fees to just send it to jess. IE, paypal would take a cut from the 500 sent to murdock, and another cut from jess's 500 sent by murdock. Why send funds twice when once would do the trick?

Re: Epoxy questions!
Yes, any two part epoxie should do the trick. It comes in tubes, squeeze out small equal amounts of each onto a peice of paper or tin foil, mix and stir with a toothpick until well blended, and apply. Also agree with K the red, the slower drying, the better!

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?
While casualties may seem high, considering the ROE and the number of participants, its really not that bad. An occasional severed finger seems par for the course. No one was killed I take it? Any eye injuries? Dang, I wish I was younger..Looks like the difference between SCA and BOTN is like the di...

Re: Semi OT: Best meal to eat (for recovery) after fighting?
After getting hot and tired, I like something light and cool. Cold meat or kippers, cheese, bread, fruits, salads ect. Fairly small amounts, esp. if I would be fighting later in the afternoon. Oh yea, and a beer! A cold beer brings one around and renews strength!

I actually have a couple of pieces I may offer up for sale. No brainer authentic. Two russet finished mid 16th cent floating elbow cops "almost" forming a pair and an early 16th cent outer half of a lower vambrace with some fluting, replaced spring pin and rivits.
