Re: Buying plate from abroad (Mid-Eastern Europe), advice so
I will only add this. By going with a local armourer you can be better assured of a perfect fit. As the pieces can be tried on before the final planishing, assembly, polishing ect. And mistakes can be corrected much easier. On the other hand, you might get lucky and get a near perfect fit anyway goi...

Re: Looking for resources: Historical Dog armour
For some reason I think the Spaniards used quilted armour on the dogs when they brought them here. Not sure if I read it or what? I might be totally wrong. Probably am, but thats whats filed away in my mind somehow..for some reason.

Re: Thick mail rings
Plate does a much better job protecting against crushing blows. Mail will prevent a cut from a sword, but not the bruising and breaking of bones from the blow. Clubs, maces and axes can deliver some serious blunt force trauma. The solid plates (esp large ones) distribute the shock of the blow over a...

I think Jehan uses a small hook to fish the points trough the mail iirc. Seems like a good idea, with a small enough hook.

Re: Original Spangen helm on ebay,,, labeled 5th Cen. Origin
I'm skeptical of both pieces. But we should remember, there are quite a few 16th cent bits of armour and weapons out there. Just because its old doesnt mean it always comes with paperwork, or that it "should" be in a museum. Its rare but not that uncommon. I've had quite a few original pie...

Also, the fact that its rivited make me think its earlier, maybe 17th or 18th cent. The 19th cent stuff was mainly butted. At least if its Indian or Persian.

Your right Wade, I was just thinking 20 gauge was to thin for a breastplate even for a decorator! Theres an Armour dealer in NC? Hmmm..Might have to look into that once I get my finances back in order!

I'd go 18 Gauge on the "body plates" if you making a breast and backplate, unless your thinking of a coat of plates, then 20g might do if there are going to many small ones.
