This is a sad state of affairs. I've heard a few rumours and grumblings over the years about Brians practices. Up till now, I never knew of the extent of his shenanagins.. This thread confirms my worst suspicions, and then some. I feel so sorry for you guys. I've been ripped off myself by a resin mo...

The straps should be attached with rivets. You'll want to use a washer between the leather and the peened ( or hammered) part of the rivet. You'll probably want to use two rivets for each shoulder strap attachment.

They look good for a first attempt! I think they must be the hardest pieces of armour to shape correctly with all the complex curves.

I'm not sure, but I think they very well might be. Most of that stuff seemed untouched, ( not monkeyed with) for centuries. IIRC it seems the current Counts mother or grandmother did some minor restorations and repairs years ago to them. I know they are very, very old, they might be original, but I'...

Its not so much the heat, but the tropical sun. My wife and I went out in Feb one year to the beach. We were out exactly 45 min. I got burned pretty bad, my wife was lobsterized. Wear sunscreen any time you go out. You must remember, Gruber is a fair skinned polar bear. But, he will survive. You cou...

I've got everything packed away, I'll see if i can dig some stuff out for pics. I dont have much armour now, I just kept the dregs. I have the two floating elbow cops ( almost" forming a pair, and a early 16th-late 15th cent lower cannon. I have a few weapons left. I've a fairly decent rondel d...

James A. Gillespie should also get a mention. I dont own any of his work, but that talented guy is the guru of German gothic! I'm lucky enough to have a single Mac piece, a full 14th cent harness from Hedgecock (minus gauntlets) and a few things from Jiri Klepac, who I've been dealing with exclusive...

Style has an effect too. 14th cent is cheaper to reproduce than 15th century. simpler = less time involved in the making.

A lot will depend on your budget as well. A decent suit might cost 3,000 or 4,000. A really fine historical reproduction might cost 10,000-20,000. If we knew your price range we could make better recommendations.

While not 100% historically correct. They look spiffy. Just fine for SCA use. I agree, the knees are more 15th cent style. But the main visual impact is on the Cuisses, and those sure have the look of the 14th cent.

After the primer and paint, you might try a misting of a clear coat sealer. That might make the paint last a tad bit longer.

Hmmm, an exhaust fan setup is what you need. Or a chimney. Enough wood smoke will kill ya if your not careful.
