I'm a big fan of wax. I always go with a heavy coat of it when it has to be stored for a long period of time. I use Johnsons paste wax, but I've heard good things about turtle wax too. I think any quality wax will do. I like to wrap the pieces seperatly after waxing to prevent the plates from rubbin...

I think ( but I'm not sure) they were worn all over Europe, but stayed in fashion a bit longer in German speaking areas. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd say mid 14th century. That type of splinted armour was worn a bit longer in Germany, up till the later part of the 14th.

They are on the inside and fairly small on the couple I've seen. I doesnt take much to make it work.

I used to own a 16th cent arm harness with a spring pin that was secured with a sneck hook for the vambrace. Pretty fancy setup. It worked well. It was German make, but I sold it years ago, and lost the detailed pics when my old computer crashed.

If history is any indication I will leave it alone. It may sound odd, but I come from an armourer background, not one focused on interior design. To me this means that I tend to prefer a 100% real piece that illustrates construction and form even if it is missing bits rather than a 75% or 50% real ...

I've read in period that they used lampblack. Lampblack is basically soot from the oil lamps. I was never sure exactly how it was collected, and painted on. Bumpage, as they end today! The Gold knight is about 1/8 scale, and measures 14 1/2" from bottom of hoof to tip of sword.
