No Rhys.....You are doing Western Europe... We (most of the rest of the SCA) are doing Europe and incorporating other cultures that had a significant impact on it.....of which the Mongols were one.. As an obviously intelligent and learned man, it puzzles me why you would rail agianst learning someth...

Vermin- This was posted on my Kingdom Email list.. Hi, I'll jump in with my own 2 cents. The problem with the statement is that "All but proof against arrows". Which arrows? The average English archer would in most cases use 2 types of arrows, a bodkin and a broadhead, usually one that looked like a...

I agree...however my issue is this... You state that we are all noble and that archers on the battle field are a virus to be swept aside.... that to try to accurately portray things is the goal to aspire to....but where do we stop? If you replace any of these issues with other issues....do we stop t...

Hushgirl- I am an Unbelt.... I am an unbelted Prince.... and until this Saturday I will be one. However because I will now wear a white belt does not make me a different person, nor does it change my outlook... What is does change is my responsibility Now I will have a responsibility to protect and ...

Here is what one gentle in my Kingdom posted when I asked about it on the discussion list: "The other position to take is that combat archery as we practice is so limited in comparison to the real thing (range, number of arrows that can be carried, armour requirements, etc.) that one CA arrow hitting...

Juliana- Yes...actually the Mongol and Persian nobles were taught from just about birth how to ride and shoot, as were most of the commoners. Even the Ba'adhur (the Mongol "Knightly class") were feared for their ability with the bow. Subedai was appointed by Ghengis Khan Hmself and he was known as S...

Rhys:"It's not tunnel vision to ignore the right thing for the organization. I know you've chosen to ignore the strictures of the SCA which state that we're reenacting pre-17th century Western Europe; I can't stop you from doing that (name for me *one* Mongol king of a western European country). But...

Cheval:My arguments are grounded in our existing rules and a desire for parity loosely based on a historical model. CA violates these rules, it is inconsistent with what a noble persona would practice, and it is unfairly weighted in favor of the archer. Do you deny this is the case? If you are askin...

I wouldnt worry... I do not think C/A is going anywhere....if anything I see its role being expanded in the big Wars like Pennsic, Gulf Wars and Estrella. I for one will enjoy it. I enjoy shooting and enjoy fighting in a C/A enviroment. It's a great deal of fun....as long as they are heavies... NO L...
