Samuel beat me to it but I was going to say that I wear 12 oz leather on my elbows and that wasnt enough until I wax hardened them.

You may want to adjust for this if the SCA is your target customer base.

I have seen manuscripts and paintings that go back as far as 9th century that show asians wearing what looks to be bazubands, but most of the better documentation I have found was persian and later period closer to 1200-1300

well....yes

normally a single handed weapon hitting the hip or shoulder loses that limb or legs.
A mass weapon to the hip or shoulder is a kill.

A friend made "boot cozies" for his high top cleats.
They are basically leather covers that look like period pull on shoes, that cover his boots.
They look real good.

Well the scutum and pilium would be the first things I would use. after you throw the Pilium then the unit moves to tactics with the gladius

I never use the oven. I gives me very little control over the waxing process. I have a metal can that my wax is in I heat that on the stove until it liquifies then paint it on with a brush. Then I use a heat gun to melt it into the leather. It gives you much more control and helps you saturate the l...

I use half and half bees wax and parafin.
It helps take out some of the brittle qualities that parafin alone seems to leave.

Do you mean shovel greaves??

I have seen these made from hardened leather for SCA combat
The only issue is that when you are on your knees they can expose the top of the Knee which is a no-no, so check with your local marshalette before investing in them.
