Actually, as someone who has been King...I surrounded my self with a command staff who was best suited for the challenges I wanted to overcome...not by what tourneys they won... My War General *was* a Duke, but he is known much more for his war fighting tactics and melee sense than winning tourneys....

sword blocks and using your shield are a last line of defense...the best defense is good control of range and foot work...ie not being there. Gorm....when I shot siloflex arrows with baldar blunts on them out of a 50 lb bow and was unstoppable on the field....I killed with just about every shot.
