Nice pads, I was about to buy a set BUT...
The sizing in the website sucks...
How do you figure out which ones you need? where do you measure? around the knee in the middle? what do you do if you are between sizes? buy bigger or smaller.....
Thanks!
Rowan

Unless I am in full plate I would not wear anything else. Torvaldr's are awesome, though he is not doing the pretty decorations anymore. Light and tough. I also wear a pseudo-bazuband made by Strawberry Fields Armoury [img]http://strawberryfieldsarmory.com/images/susanvambracershelmcups_021.jpg[/img...

(Admiring the tool and wondering whether this is worth just to rivet about 2 rivets a year for strapping a helm......) Money aside, for the armoring challenged, how does it work? Re: SCA: Gorget Legal?
Aaron, have you been hit in the throat ? Serious question. I wear plate gorgets. I only wear plate gorgets. I've had my plate gorget creased. I find there to be no difficulty in recognizing a good blow. I can't imagine how a person could not recognize a "good" blow to the throat or neck t...

Why are you bothering with scale, or lamellar or other things that you know aren't historical for you? Just get one of those body bracelets from O'Quinn, and a good stiff gambeson. Rely on your virtue (*cough*) and your big mucking shield to carry you through, and then at least the pain will be fro...

Will you do like most others in the same boat and get a set from me instead Eric I can vouch for Erics arms, they move great and are built like tanks. Just ensure that you give him the right dimensions to work with, especially forearm lenght, and you will have a great set of arms. His service and c...

Damon has done it again, a bit ago he offered a stealth rig he had available in the shop, to make a long story short it didn't fit me, his solution, make me a new one from scratch for the same price. Damon's customer service always blows me away. I pay for a left-over and get a custom build rig. As...

Pennsic 300 Battle
Greetings All, I read a posting, started a while ago, where some worthies here in the AA and in the SCA proper had discussed the possibility of organizing a battle at Pennsic, to commemorate the stand of the 300 and their allies against the Persians. At the time the movie " 300 " had just ...

What I do is peen the rivet on the outside and dress it with a rivet set, it makes a domed head that way, OR you could get an impact hammer and make a rivet set to fit in it and peen it with that, if the helm is wide enough to fit the hammer. I like the first option myself. Can you say that in Engl...

Working inside tight pieces...
Greetings! Is there a special technique to rivet or hammer inside really tight spaces? I am referring to hammering a rivet or slightly reshaping a piece FROM THE INSIDE when there is little space to move around or swing a hammer with enough power. Examples: Riveting a D ring inside of a helmet so th...

How do you make your 2 inch thrusting tips for Rattan?
Ok, Leet me try this again What method do you use to make a safe and durable 2" thrusting tip? The question is asked because the "low profile" tips, as used on single handed swords are supported completely by the rattan tip so they are easy to cut, make and attach to the tip of a swor...

Next project: a Dori
Well, as my hoplite kit keeps coming together, I learned that a decent Dori or one handed Doric spear can be built to SCA safety standards. The pole needs to be 1 1/4 (not bad then as I understand historical dori were about 1" diameter). It should not be not too flexible and it can have thrusti...

My Kopis/Machaira project
What do you guys think thus far? It is not perfect but at least I was able to add some blade width to the weapon. I need to work on the grip/hit now. it is about 25 inches long... The problem of course is that the original grips are a mess for SCA use... m Any technical advise to make it look better...

If you have done this, can you please guide me? Photos of your helmet with and without the crest on, so the attachment system is clearly visibly would be of enormous help. If it is coming in loose now, the solution I have may not work as well. My helm was just a bit too tight with the one layer of bluefoam, and this current setup just rocks (and is fully legal too). It does depend entirely on the remaining space in the helm though. C'mon man, let it out! I am getting...

You may have a bit of trouble, Rowan. Try putting it on and leaving it there for a good 20-30 min. Simulate how long you may be in a War scenario. If you start to feel a dull headache, it may be a teensy bit too small. If so, PM me and I have a solution (had the same thing happen to me), that will ...

How snug do you prefer your helmet?
I am asking this because I just got a helmet, quite a bit tighter than the one I am used to. It fits ok once it is in, but it feels a bit tight as I put it on. So I am hoping to get some advise to see if I am being crazy here The design is such that the nose is fine. and even without a chinstrap it ...

WTB: Bent piece of rattan....
While I could do the research and develop the skill, I simply have no time...
So I am hoping someone may have laying around a "ruined" piece of rattan that got bent.
I have a mind to make a machaira or Kopis for SCA combat..
Thanks!

pure conjecture. The shield is larger proportionally than the other shields around it. Especially noting the size of the red shield in the foreground. A large heater would have problems crossing from one side of the horse to another while engaged. Holding it in the way portrayed, would allow for ea...
