Re: Ack.
Rowan... I've had two or three "how to make a sword" sessions for the folks down here in Ponte Alto. Just one approach to it, naturally, and I don't ever claim anything we teach is the right way or the best way... but I think you might benefit it. And, of course, we always like having you...

I actually used a standard steel pipe from Home depot, 1-1/2 inches dia, and I ground the edge with my angle grinder, which is fitted permanently with a corrugated sanding disk (I use that almost exclusively for shaping the grips of rattan swords) It took about 2 minutes of careful grinding to get a...

Halberds is an f...ing genius (or Man the Tool Maker)
So I use little disks of blue foam of death (3 of them stacked) to make my own thrusting tips. I was taught that way by Baron Don Miguel and I like the simplicity of the setup. But it is a real REAL nuisance to cut the little disks evey time. So I asked Hal if he knew or could make me a cutting tool...

I will be bringing my repair kit along with me. Even if I do not have much stock I will have at least one of everything I make there to serve as samples. I will also have plenty of business cards, cds, and a photo album. I will be in the front corner of the booth right on the corner of two roads. M...

Rowan, Seriously, THANK YOU from the depths of my heart and soul. Dealing with the near constant mutilation of the English language, especially in written form, by it's native speakers makes me want to scream! Note: I refer to native english speakers. It's your mother tongue. Use it properly! My fa...

Scuta for Roman Personae
Romans,
I found this little gem in the Valentine Armouries website. A little steep but not terrible, and awesome looking.
I gots nothing to do with this, except passing along a tip of something I saw, in case someone likes it.
Look at the very bottom of this page

(sorry, I cannot contain myself) From: m 1) To Form Contractions As you know, a contraction is simply two words collapsed into one. You use contractions most often in informal or personal types of writing but usually not in more formal types. When you speak, you use contractions every day. Here are ...

The real bitch of heat exhaustion is that once you suffer from it, you're more likely to suffer from it in the future, I believe. My brother had the same sort of thing happen a few weeks ago at an event. He'd already armored down about an hour before when he just keeled over and started puking. Thi...

Sir Vitus, If this helps at all, perhaps it is an issue of electrolytes not just heat and dehydration alone. Hyponatremia is a very serious result of drinking water but not taking electrolytes... We lost a cop here in DC a few years ago. Drank too much water after a workout. m If mysery likes compan...

To answer rowan's question, YES it can be made. As Odo stated, Duke Gaston of trimaris has used ones, simialar to the right and left illustrations. They were both made out of 6061-t6. Most of the metal work took one afternoon per shield. He uses them very dynamicly. Hope this helped Jeff Thank you!...

Re: Shields
Gothic shield is 6061 T6 and has to be seen to understand the measurements. Pic link above> hight 44" top width 29" bottom width 22" side length 35. 6061 is "softer" than 7075 in equal temper grades. 2024 in T3 is "Stronger" than 6061 in T6 Any shield can be cross...

I saw sowmehere a documented set of pointed (i.e. laced) shoulder cops, very small but probably better than nothing, but I cannot recall the website. You can also set a small set of cops and attach it under the maille... Another option is the get someone to make you steel ailettes and tie them there...

Re: yup
Ok, My lizard-sized brain is confused: What size is the gothic? what material? (please educate me: is 6061-T6 softer than 7075 T6?. I know the combination means alloy+temper I just don't know what that means for me as as a user.) Lastly, as stupid as it sounds, can I strap one of those or one has to...
