Effingham-Tono Domo Arigato gozaimashita.. Ano... This place is kinda taken over by the 14th century mafia, and having browsed Froissart a bit, methinks that it was time to dust off the little French I know. One must give to Thezar what belongs to Thezar... I humbly try to add a spec of color to the...

Tristan vom Schwarzwald Other than the eye openning color, what do you not like about that one? The design *seems* right...are you saying it is too heavy/thick? Well, I am not sure since that IS part of the issue. As far as my limited knowledge guides me, a gambeson was made to be worn under maille...

Tor, do you have Pics? the level of rust sets the tone for any cleaning. First though, ascertain the actual value, monetary and historical of the sword. If it is worth a LOT of money, touch it not and send it to a professional. You can call an auction house to find out a good restorer. If this is no...

Freiman, As best as I can: 1) Any decent degreaser designed for machinery that will not damage the hilt and grip will work. The trick is removing it carefully at the end. If there is a bit of grease left, it is ok, the Ballistol will remove it/blend with it, as long as there is not a lot of it left....

Freiman, This is a Blue Bird question. The answer is so close to you it is not funny. You are in an Army base as I understand. Take: 1) Ballistol. Oh, Thanks Lee. I am in a bit of a Dilemma (sorry Steve) as I am looking for something light and cool that would give me a modicum of padding without smothering me. Last year I almost had a heat stroke at one point, so I have learned to be cautious. My current lighweight kit was designed to be worn ...

Has anyone seen this in person?
http://www.silvermane.com/acatalog/CI-AB0158.html
If you have, can you comment on construction and quality, taking into consideration this is is a basic type and not one of the nice ones mae by people here in the AA?
Thanks!

Segehart is truly a Laurel waiting to happen.... (Take heed, Oh Lords of Atlantia!) The first look at the shield in person blew me over. The funny thing is that he said that he did not put as much detail because this was a fighting shield, not a parade shield.... he even did the historical research ...

It is all D. Sebastian's fault. I fully blame him. That being said, below please see my shield as I received it today from Segehart, an artist to be reckoned with. I only regret that flash light and zoom don't do justice to the magnificent detail he did on the faces and the rose. It is almost a pity...

Grail imagery in Old Testament
I was looking at the Maciejowski Bible for a different purpose and I found this: Notice David on the upper right, holding a chalice and a spear which he took from Saul. This is quite striking Grail imagery and I was wondering whether there is an...

Paul Binns in the UK makes some of the best rebated weapons out there. Period. It took me weeks and excellent arguments to convince him that I was a safe guy and for him to agree to make me a non rebated, i.e. real Viking sword. His pattern welded blades (which I could not afford) are simply fantast...

Lightweight shoe coverage
My search for affordable period shoes for fighting that would fit my very wide feet is going nowhere. Apparently most commercially available period shoes are built on very narrow lasts. Lady Oren's custom made shoes are affordable and perdiodish enough for garb use, but I seriously doubt that they a...

The Norse had strapped ovals? Not that I know. Strapped is MY preference for a fighting shield, oval is the shape I think I can compromise with and keep a more period look for the kit, a round shield being not great for me at this point. I did a little research and found several references suggesti...

It Surely does (Thank you all that gave me advise!) As background, this IS supposed to be a Norse kind of shield (for a norse kit), but I want to stick to something as close as the curved heater I fight and practice with, while making it look norse-like. I was about to order a curved one, but I had ...

Re: Shooting a bow in SCA gauntlets
Peder, I guess it could be done with enough practice, but accuracy and range would be seriously affected, not to say anything about speed. Dexterity under stress goes down like a kamikaze on a flat-top, if you add full gauntlets it is a double handicap. The only thing that I can imagine might work i...

Strapped shield: to curve or not to curve...
Gentles, I am in the ordering the blank stage of a new shield, and while I am using my curved heater, this one will be strapped oval. I am really curious about this and it could be a fun experiment. My question is about shield curvature and its real effect on weak side protection. Logic indicates th...
