Actually speed is a component as well. Angel wings, being wings after all, must comply with all laws of aerodynamics, created by God. As early aeronautics discovered, you need a LARGE wing surface to lift a human body: http://www.havacilik.metu.edu.tr/ymph/OttoLilienthal.jpg As speed and airflow inc...

Ken, It goes like this: If you walk on foot, either late at night or early in the morning, on Boulevard St Michel, across the school of mines, between the two entrances to the Louxembourg Metro, or even better, between Rue Michelet and Place Edmond Rostand m You will see that about 9 feet up, on the...

I noticed the same. In other words, the camera would be beyond range of the stick of the stepper, had he tried to touch it with the tip of his sword. Plenty of room to move around, and there appears to be no threat from the extreme right to concern him. His helmet is looking ahead and to the left, n...

Now all the youth of England are on fire, And silken dalliance in the wardrobe lies: Now thrive the armourers, and honour's thought Reigns solely in the breast of every man: They sell the pasture now to buy the horse, Following the mirror of all Christian kings, With winged heels, as English Mercur...

Polishing plate armour...
Greetings, I have a few piece of plate armour that I'd love to shine a bit. They were not originally shiny, but the would look a bit better with some polishing. Can one polish fully assembled articulated armour without making it look stupid? Can you do that at home or you need an armorer? What would...

Ken, losthelm Francois ARAGO was an astronomer that proposed a new Meridian going through Paris. In his honor, a line marking the meridian through Paris was marked with medallions such as I showed above. They were featured in the movie and novel Da Vinci Code. I thought it could be cool to track the...

For anyone in Paris:
Are there copies of the ARAGO medallions available as souvenirs in Paris? if so could you find how much they cost?
Thanks!

Review: Chuck's small "Viking" pouch
I had been meaning to get a piece of leather gear from Chuck for a while, as he came with excellent recommendations. Being cronically short of extra money, and loath to carry bit items, I chose a small brown Norse pouch from his offer in Early January. I was not disappointed. The pouch came excellen...

My opinion, but expressed far more eloquently and succintly than I can. Thank you Syr Justus. Rowan of Needwood I've been stepped on, fallen on, hit on the ground ect, that is all part of the game. I agree about the less than honorable behaviour of someone taking advantage of being dead to gain unfair advantage over a living opponent. That is against the spirit of what we do and it is deplorable. But let's not make this about the dead guy. I am working on the premise that the dead guy is dead ...

Doe, A Yarmulka is the Yiddish name for the Kippa, or Jewish skullcap, worn constantly by religious Jews, and ritually by secular Jews. http://images.inmagine.com/168nwm/photoalto/paa052/paa052000064.jpg It is usually considered a form or respect for the holiness of a temple or a cemetery to wear on...

Having been myself in the same situation that Jess describes , I can gather this: A shield, especially a curved one, (and a body as well), are crappy stepping platforms: The French infantry came to the piles of dead and dying knights and horses and began to climb over them. All the time they saw the...

Both excellent points to be taken seriously. there is some awesome art in this thread. It is a great idea but a daunting artistic challenge I am not sure I can mat...

Torvaldr, My thoughts and prayers are with the family. As for the fallen warrior, I am thinking of a better place and way to go, and I can count few. Feeling Sir Vitus' pain... shieldmaking adventures.
Taking advantage of the shortest break in the cold weather, I was able to re-strap my heater to a more ergonomic setup, following my teacher's advise, and even pull out the canvas and re-cover it. (previous experiences inside the garage using the 3M red spray adhesive brought fumes and smell into th...
