Re: [SCA] Is deliberate spear breaking legal?

Gentlemen, why don't we keep the discussion civil? We can express our opinions honestly and forcefully without resorting to vulgarity. The rules are grey on this specific question until clarified by the opinion of authority (as the KEM of the Midrealm has chosen to do) or amended at the Society lev...

Re: [SCA] Is deliberate spear breaking legal?

It's Douchy. Bleck. Indeed, the question to ask (or paint inside one's shield) is : " what would Bertrand DuGlesclin do ?" If he or Chandos, or Manny, or "Sir Nigel" would do it, then it is probably ok to do in SCA fighting. Um, I wouldn't look to The Toad for inspiration. All t...

Re: [SCA] Is deliberate spear breaking legal?

Again gentlemen, it goes back to the same issue as "Calling them on it".... It is about cheating in one way or another, either by denying your opponent the ability to hit you by affecting their equipment or refusing to acknowledge when they DO hit you. The benefits of "wining" ar...

Re: [SCA] Is deliberate spear breaking legal?

Is this really a problem? Holy crap. I would be mortified if I broke someones kit. Indeed you would be Your Grace, because you are a decent guy and in your case it would be accidental. Most of us would be unhappy. I believe the issue discussed is about intentionally damaging an opponent's spear, or...

Leather (or metal) armorers please read

A kind soul posted this in the Combat and Weapons forum: http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb74/Enderonimus/silvermedusa8.jpg in reply to my request for info on Youth combat helmets. Can you make something like this out of hardened leather or aluminum for SCA youth combat? I also got this which may...

Always remember, burn last! By the way, I would like to point out for those of you who have dissed Beowulf, that Beowulf was a Geat. From Sweden. A Norseman. Ego, by common parlance, a Viking! Re: Looking for some starting armour... Greek styled..

A comment on what Maximus said, not because it is wrong, but because it needs to be emphasized. Greaves are great and combination knee/greaves such as both Gunther and Maximus offer are excellent. It is important to notice that Classical or Archaic greaves as worn are not SCA legal because the top a...

Layering your 14th century armour...

Among the options available for mid 14th century armour is the use of a Jupon as an over garment. Period illustrations show quite convincingly that this was -at least sometimes- a PADDED over garment m At least padded enough for arrows and bolts to stick to it....
