Protective value of leg wraps...
The exchange about the hidden knees and lower leg shots made me think so I thought I'd ask experienced fighters that wear leg wraps/Winnigas as part of their kits: Just out of curiosity, and more for protection rather than scoring purposes... What type of protection, if any, do you derive from the l...

Can you give some examples? I'm not aware of any outside of the ancient practice of using a slung shield with a Sarissa.

Not OLDEST but incredibly complete for its age. Mesomedes of Crete was a late 1st.- early 2nd century AD writer, a freedman of Emperor Hadrian. There are 15 pieces known to have been composed by him. Here is one of the favorites: m Hymn to Nemesis (1st Century C.E.) (for Voice, Lyra, Psithyra) "...

Well yes, but not in the strict sense, because of the technical difficulties in recreating the actual tune. The oldest complete tune actually recognized as such is the Song of Seikilos m m The Seikilos epitaph is the oldest surviving example of a complete musical composition, including musical notat...

Maeryk, Let me thread delicately here so you don't misunderstand me. To deny Christianity is lie denying humanity. The reason is simple. Christians are here, and there is a long documented line of existence of Christianity back to Roman times. It is plain simple and stupid to deny Christianity. Now ...

I recall this matter came up when discussing -for academic purposes- the idea of a Macedonian Phalanx in an SCA field battle. Phalangites used a 12 foot spear, held by both hands, the left hand ALSO holding a small round shield. http://www.ancientbattles.com/Alexander_movie_photos/phalanx_01.jpg Tig...

I think it is simply a manner of speech. As stated above, the idea is that even if the trespasser were to be able to enter the precinct flying through the air, he would still be subject to the laws that apply as he had climbed the walls... the issue is the entering -not through the doors- as opposed...

I've heard that a good soaking in plain Listerine can cure stinky gambeson. Never tried it, YMMV. That gives me an idea: DETTOL http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31V0m0ObyDL._SL500_AA300_.jpg A wash with Dettol added to it should kill any bacteria-created odor. Stuff is good. I ordered a couple of coifs from Adric, they arrived promptly and they serve nicely the purpose for which I got them (to wear under a snug helm and keep my ears flat, as well as my helm dry) Nice product. What was the cause of the smell? did he ever have them dry cleaned?
I am curious because the smell can only come from the fill, since the shell is easy to treat...
