Yeah, I agree Tobar. I ordered a helm on 10 June 2009 and was quoted 30 days. I actually got it in the middle of August but I hounded him every other day once it was late (10 July). Good luck on getting your stuff guys. I also had some problems about what I ordered and he offered to make good on it ...

Well, it would seem that you didn't post on this thread when you decided to purchase it (like most people do) to let everyone know. Further, Hjalmr didn't post on this thread to advise that someone had purchased it. Doesn't seem that difficult to figure out. Probably a good time to take this off the...

Measurements? Also it has no avantail attached? I thought I saw pictures with one. That's the mild steel one. He made that one first and made this as after that one. But I'm sure he'd be happy to add one. No that is the Stainless one that was commissioned, but it has no avantail as the owner was go...

On a different thought, if you want cheap, I can show you how to put together a kit (minus sword, shield, gorget, and helmet) for less than $50. PM me for details if you are interested. It'll be historically accurate for many time periods but generally 5th to the 16th century. And it will require yo...

I'd suggest adding plastic splints to the gambeson (and anything else you are planning on making). If the channels you are sewing are roughly 2 inches apart, for example, if you cut plastic splints 1 3/4 inches wide (experiment with length, 4-6 inches works well for me) and simply place them in thos...

I would strongly suggest that if you are going to put padding on the demi-greave that you also add a bit of leather (or a small metal plate or something) where the point hits. Eventually the point will get through the padding or move it out of the way but it'll be a lot more likely to stay put if th...

To clear up any confusion...the minimum of a helmet is 16 gauge (or 1.6 mm). For the rest of required armor, 18 gauge (assuming steel) is what is considered rigid (or their equivalent). Earl Marshall's Handbook (XVIV - Glossary, A. Armor Materials): Rigid material: a. Steel of no less than 18 gauge,...

Padded greaves can be had here for $12. I haven't heard wonderful things about their customer service but it's dirt cheap. Ordinarily I'd say that this website is usually crap and horribly overpriced. But to be honest...some of that stuff looks awfully cheap. Too cheap, in my opinion... I'm curious if anyone else has had any experience with them? As far as the legs, it appears that they do not have a wrap plate. If you ...

WTB: Plastic or SSteel vambraces
Hey guys, I'm looking for vambraces. Ideally plastic but I'd look at stainless steel. What I'm looking for is something light-weight and something that won't soak up sweat (or at least washable if it does). Anyone even know of anyone who makes an item like this? I can't find any from stonekeep, icef...

I've been told by many a fighter to use combat boots, but I have a good pair of period knee-boots that just need a good rubber sole put on them and they'll grip a hell of a lot better. Would that work for fighting in? Couple of ways to answer that. First off, anecdotally I'd say that 70% of the fig...

So I realize this is not something that people want to throw into the conversation but there are legal differences. If you are a fighter, and authorize, and go through what is, in effect, a safety course, you can be held to a higher degree of care for yourself when in a combat situation. If you are ...

To be perfectly honest, merchants doing arrangements like this is generally bad for consumers, competition, and innovation. That's actually the kind of thing that anti-trust laws were put into motion to stop. Also it's great to get more historically accurate armor out there, more merchants = more a...

If you have your heart set on leather, I would follow Duke Gavin's advice. However, I'd second (or maybe third) the advice of, if you want a CoP, using plastic. If you have access to a pickle barrell (and if not searching for 'rain barrell' on craigslist should find you one for less then $20) it's p...

I know you like viking (as do I) but the thing that I found myself liking even more was the pre-viking age. People argue but the general viking age seems to start at 750 AD (and go to about 900 or 1000 AD depending on who you talk to). So 600-750 AD Romano-British or Vendel is a great look, somewhat...

Maxim (M.Suprovich) has done some amazing pieces. Further, he's in the Ukraine so shipping shouldn't be nearly as bad as it is to us (Stateside). Re: Can
Then if you can fight in a demi gaunt and a clamshell gaunt I don't see why its not possible to make a fingered style gauntlet that would work. Something with leather to roll off both ends of the hand. In other words the middle and ring finger would be the 2 fingers that would not have leather goin...

The easy way to fix the crest problem is to make it movable. We have at least one fighter in this kingdom (Meridies) that has one attached via velcro or magnets (I've seen both). If a shot hits it and takes off the crest no biggie. He can obviously feel if the shot goes through the crest and hits hi...

I'm guessing that you probably won't listen to the advice but you will be much better off and save yourself much heartache and problems if you follow the ways that other successful armorers do with commodities. I think the spaulders are probably the only parts of that stuff that may sell. You can get a new maille shirt for $125 (butted) from a professional or from eBay. The arms are crap to be honest, most people won't purchase from dark victory and can make it for themselves for less. And you are basicall...
