Here is my unpadded polearm. Call it a heptiseax, bill hook, whatever. It is a copy of a steel one that my master had, and that was used to cut brush.

Actually, yes. My only unpadded pole currently was made from 2" rattan, shaved, shaped and stained. I'll try to get pics up. But Your Grace, Our swords look like sticks too. but if you shave them down on the sides and add a fuller they can look like swords. Can you do the same with an unpadded glaiv...

I make my padded poles with a rattan edge. SCA legal, and still hits so people take it.

I do agree with the unpadded tips, at least with some weapons.

I'm getting ready to do something similar with my helm. I want to put maille on it so it will come just below my eyes... looking just like a simple helm with a full maille drape. I was planning on getting one of Kings Lance coifs and cutting it as you did.

Re: Poor new fighter attitudes!

"I just enjoy having fun because I know I'll never be a good fighter". Uric This is not really a bad statement... I feel somewhat like this myself. I fight weapons forms that a Varangian would have, and concentrate on haveing a goot time. My feeling is, I may never be an OTC, or a knight, but I'll ...

Lucan won in 3 of the longest fights I have ever witnessed against Sir Griffith. The semi's were Griffith/Thorson and Kelson/Lucan.

Rained ALL DAY. There were 28 fighters, and there were some pretty good fights. I marshalled, and was pleased at the fighting... no real problems or tantrums all day.

Have fun... making these is a really neat process, and I'm totally addicted. My technique has evolved, and I've got some good ideas to improve more... I just need to get more rattan. :D
