Blackbow, trapping a pole weapon is not illegal. Trapping, grabbing, etc. the BLADE of a weapon is forbidden, but grabbing onto a haft or handle is acceptable by society standards.

Just one of the reasons I love the 2" rattan Scramsax in my belt sheath.

The aluminum weighs more than you'd think... I have that, and it balances nice. I had a brass brazil nut pommel set, and the pommel and hilt alone were 3 pounds, not counting stick, tape, screw and rivits. Did not balance well at all for me...

I like what Richard said... very clear and concise. I also am in the no padding camp though... at least on single handed weapons. We have played w/o padded tips (outside SCA practice, of course) and had no problem with injuries... and I found that you did not have to drive in thrusts to get them tak...

The Mandrake/cap'n jaime shields are too small, at 26"... the RLQM ons is too expensive at $250...

The big wok thing was an idea... but I haven't found one that big yet...

Greek/Spartan gear

There is a new fighter in our shire who is planning to go with a spartan persona, and is working on putting together appropriate gear.

Does anyone know where to get blanks for an aspis (spun or dished Al round) and an appropriate helm? Probably a corinthian helm would be best...

I seem to remember a waepon referred to in Grettir's Saga called a heptisax... meaning literally "hafted sax" that would be a cutting or thrusting weapon... but it would not resemble that monstrosity. It seems like it would more resemble a bill hook...
