Seeking books on runestones
I'm curious if folks have and recommendations for books on Norse runestones and picture stones. I carve some, and I'm interested in learning more about the existing stones, whet types of stone they were cut from, what pigmants were used to paint them, etc. I have some tiles (albeit very few) but don...

Re: Mouth guards while fighting
I wore one for a time when I came back to SCA fighting after doing football for several years, just because I wasn't comfortable in the helmet without it. Purely a mental thing, really. Never had a problem yelling hold or calling commands with it... but then, I played corner and safety, and called d...

Re: Appearance - Fighting footwear
Well, I fight in period shoes that are a thin layer of leather over my feet... so i may be the wrong person to ask. I've never really had a problem... but once again, barefooting six months of the year probably makes me a lot mor aware of where my feet are than average. Seems like fighting in caligu...

Re: Appearance - Fighting footwear
I've known people to fight in caligae. Can someone help me figure out what footwear I can use for early Roman 165 AD. Currently I use my Danner Pronghorns. I know that is not acceptable. I do have a pair of black half chaps that cover the uppers completely. I can't use what they would have worn, the...

Yeah... that outlook will harsh them way more than you being a "fencing viking". The overall response I've gotten is "Cool! How did you do the sword?" Fair enough. I'm probably harshing their Three Musketeers vibe enough by wanting to be a fencing Viking... Probably not, actually...

Re: Appearance - Fighting footwear
People have actually slipped and fell while fighting in a lot of different shoes. Turnshoes require you to me much more mindful of your footing and footwork, yes. But they are just different, not worse. Turn shoes don't offer support and traction and people have actually slipped and fell when trying...

Combine it with a spear or Dane axe as a rigid parry.
